Do you smell the smoke Meg? I've caught wind of a bit the past few days. Today when I drove into town there was a sign on the road saying the road to the north of us was closed for 40 miles due to fire.
Only today is it a bit hazy. We had one that's been burning since Aug. 16 blow up yesterday, it was quite the sight to see. Couldn't believe the size of the plumes, but it's only at 1000 acres so far. Do you guys have fires going in Wyoming or is the smoke coming from somewhere else?

@N F C here's a picture of it! Doesn't really do it justice, but it was weird because the sky was so clear.

There are fires around Yellowstone and Grand Tetons plus a few others.

That's some photo you caught!

Is that smoke Meg? If so, what's burning?
Yes, that is smoke. Isn't that wild? It's a forest fire started by a lightening strike last month. Apparently, some pretty rugged country is making it tough to battle. They said on the radio this morning they'll need a season ending storm to get it out. But we're in for rain and cool temperatures starting tomorrow!

That's a bit close for comfort given the speed fires can travel at.

About the fires...there was an interesting conversation at the golf course last weekend.

Two of our regulars were loggers in their younger years. It's their opinion the government intervention has done a lot of damage to the forests by not allowing clear cutting and naturally caused fires to occur...that's it's not surprising these huge fires happen. They said the forests were much healthier years ago when the loggers were permitted to harvest and clean up the woods.

I know not everyone agrees with that train of thought, but I found it very interesting.
