Send some my way...I'm have a terrible time climbing out of the cracks in the ground around here! :(

That's one of the few saving graces about this. It's been very dry here, so the ground is like a wrung-out sponge. We are experiencing flash flooding, but long-term effects from this deluge should be minimal.

About the fires...there was an interesting conversation at the golf course last weekend.

Two of our regulars were loggers in their younger years. It's their opinion the government intervention has done a lot of damage to the forests by not allowing clear cutting and naturally caused fires to occur...that's it's not surprising these huge fires happen. They said the forests were much healthier years ago when the loggers were permitted to harvest and clean up the woods.

I know not everyone agrees with that train of thought, but I found it very interesting.
I very much agree with this. Our forests are a disaster at the moment. Logging here is not near as prevalent as it should be, and the government is not doing much (if anything) to clean up the beetle kill.

@Shadrach since you are quite a rooster expert, I thought I would ask your opinion on this story.

To me, it seems like the rooster was not being “aggressive” or “attacking” like they describe but rather just mistook the vein for a worm? Especially since it was only one or two pecks and then presumably he realized it wasn’t and stopped. Doesn’t seem like an attack to me. More like a tragic accident. Because even just knowing just a little about about rooster and chicken behavior, seems to me like if it was an attack he would have flown at her feet first and she would have spur injuries, big cuts, etc.? Seems to me like a curious rooster and a tragic accident but of course she died so they will call it an “attack.”

Either way, tragic she died. :hit

If you're going to call me an expert, I'm afraid I'm going to have to charge you for an opinion.
I read it but as is often the case there just isn't enough information to come to a reasonable conclusion. I didn't like the article.

I’ll gladly pay! :lau Might have to charge IM too though! ;) :lau

And yeah, that’s true. I agree. I don’t normally like that site anyway but someone posted the link so just shared that one. I would like to do some more reading though and see if there is any more info anywhere else. But probably not. I assume she was alone when the supposed attack happened? So sadly we will probably never know the real story. But yeah, I didn’t like the article either. Not enough detail and made the rooster seem quite vicious when they really don’t know for sure.
