We in essence rescued our black lab he was never properly socialized but found he came from a good breeder hips, eyes and such .. There are many breeds that can suffer twisted gut one thing not a flaw in breeding per say some are more prone than others but if known can be corrected pretty easy
No, I don't think his was a genetic issue necessarily. He had a pretty deep chest on him. He was getting pretty bad in the hips and had a fair number of lumps on his body. But 12 yrs is on the older side, wouldn't you say?

My dad gets his dogs stomachs stapled (I can't remember what it's called) so that they don't twist, when they get neutered.

My beagle is the only AKC dog I've ever owned. The only reason I have her is because she was free. I'm not someone who buys from breeders. I like my mixed dogs!

I also like my mixed chickens.
I like mixed dogs because they seem to live longer and in better health. But that's just my experience.

My parents have always had purebreds.

I think the breed that they had that lived the longest was a Brittany. He was gorgeous and my buddy. He lived till he was 15.

So far the dog that I've had that has lived the longest was 14 years old and he was a Pekingese Pomeranian mix. I had him from the time I was 4 till I was 18. That was a rough loss!

Oh dear, I bet it was :hugs

My poor brother had to put down his pit/x this weekend. He was 15. They have 3 kids, so it's been rough for them the last couple days. Losing pets is an awful thing.
