I think sometimes it has to do with the breeding as well. Some breeders interbreed and it causes a lot of issues. I had a Staffordshire terrier that we had to put down, she had a brain injury from inbreeding. If you looked at her the wrong way she would snap. She actually attacked 2 of my dogs and me. Scariest moment in my life.

I don't always put blame on training or the owners because I've been in situations where it was something health wise going on that caused the issue.

All ofmy dogs love people for the most part, but they know when someone is bad. If my dogs don't like you, then I probably shouldn't either
Yes, nurture vs nature. Some behavior is instinctual , some is learned. There are people that should not be allowed to breed dogs.

Ok Noah, when you get the ark built, you can get 2 of each breed!;)

:lau hopefully it’s a big enough ark!! I didn’t even include all the larger breeds I want :lau

Namely retrievers/sporting breeds and herding breeds :lau

My Westie was the best dog I've ever owned. Very smart and friendly. And she played like a pup until she was over 10 years old.

She sounds amazing!! :love

I need to look into them again.

I’ve been looking into like Goldens, Labs, Aussies, even Border Collies, but maybe a Westie or something smaller would be better. :love

That’s very true too!! I think a lot or even most of the people that have small dogs get them from puppy mills/pet stores or they rescue them and think they should be totally spoiled and pampered because of their past. That’s fine, I spoil my pets too, but they also have rules they have to follow.

Neurological issues are so sad. :( I’ve heard of a few dogs with them and they had to be put down too because they don’t know what they’re doing and it’s dangerous. Very sad. :(

But I don’t think it’s very common. I think most people just get a puppy mill puppy or a rescue then spoil it. I am sure being horribly bred doesn’t help. They aren’t being bred for temperaments.

I love terriers. My mom wants to get some type of terrier I forgot what it is though. She has a Yorkie right now.

That’s awesome! Yorkies seem like cool dogs.

My mom loves Cairn terriers for some reason.

She is hilarious. She is 10 years old and my husband loves her, she hated him until the day he gave her a treat. She would sneeze in his drinks and on his food :gig

We went to TSC with her yesterday when we dropped off Sid and she walked in the store like she owns it.

:lau :gig :lau that’s awesome!!!

Jolene is poodle, Yorkie, Chihuahua, and Jack Russel. She has the best personality I think. She's not mouthy or Yippy. She listens and has lots of energy, she keeps the cat calm by running him tired.

She sounds amazing!! :love

:lau:lau:lau

Someone said this to me about my animals, but I don't have 2 of anything besides maybe chicken breeds.

I'm getting a new lizard soon :D

:lau

I went a little crazy on the fish this year lol

And the chickens. :lau :hide

Agreed!! I would also add some people should not be allowed to own dogs either. There are many people who own them who most definitely should not.

You are absolutely correct here Meg. Dogs know if you're weak and will run your life if you let them. My folks have a Chihuahua and he is a terrible dog. He has bitten both of them and everyone has to be careful around him. They make excuses for him and don't make any corrections. Super frustrating. Yet my daughters dog and our dogs get along fine with each other, other dogs and humans too, but they're all "aggressive" pitbull mixes.
Awe, that's too bad. It'd be hard to have to be around that dog.

The blanket label on "aggressive" breeds is so absurd. I'm not sure why people have such a hard time understanding that it's not "all the dog". Don't we normally blame the parents for badly behaved children? Same difference, I'd say. I looked at my local shelters pups the other day and there were quite a few pit/x's in there. Just made me sad :(

A Chihuahua was my first dog also Cap. She was a sweet thing that liked everyone.
I have a customer that brings in his little teeny tiny chihuahua once in a while and she's the cutest darn thing. She could about fit in a hot dog bun and her little pencil legs! I will have to get a picture. :p

Nature vs nurture. Absolutely certain that both are extremely important, and also certain that there are some dogs/people that will be 'bad' regardless of nurture.

I have a friend whose best ever dog was a Westie. He's had two since and both were problems.

Or own dogs. Let alone be allowed to raise children.

Good morning Café - it's an ice palace out there. No wind so no damage so far. @DobieLover what's it like up your way ?
Same. The plow and sander went by about 10 minutes before I left. Slow commute but I made it to work safely.

Good on that ! They salted roads heavily last night and again this morning so travel is not too bad. I'm presently watching NJ News and temps although in the 30's are not supposed to drop to freezing until perhaps after midnight.
