BYC Café

I hope that I am wrong, but my gut says that may be coming here in NJ. Just got back from TSC. The feed shortage was evident there. Was unable to get the dog food that I usually use, but did get some that I can mix in. They are expecting a corporate conference call this afternoon, and the rumor is that they are shutting down. Only a rumor - not fact.

Nothing since last night, Meg. They were in NC on their way home. Planning to drive straight through stopping only for coffee, fast food, gas, and bathroom breaks. It's a case where 'no news' is 'good news'.
Oh, good! On their way. That's great news :hugs

Our local community council have just dropped by a letter indicating local services to support us at this time. A number of local shops, a bakery and restaurants are offering doorstep delivery services of goods or meals, and volunteers will be manning a couple of phonelines 24/7 to help those living alone if they're self-isolating, e.g. organising the collection of prescription meds, help with navigating websites, changing gas bottles, offering reassurance or just someone to call to have a chat. Crises like this bring out the best in people, as well as the worst.

I've been shopping. I even found four rolls of toilet paper!
The town I went to is very very quiet. I don't do supermarkets if I can avoid them.
The fruit and vegetable shop I go to in this town is owned by a Peruvian family. The shop I found the toilet roll in is owned by a Moroccan man. I get meat, dates, okra, coconut, and spices from him. I hope he manages to keep afloat.
I've got beans, tomatoes, onions and courgettes planted and I've been up on the ridge getting some rosehip bush cuttings with half a cubic meter of the soil they grow in. Although the ridge is only 50 meters further up the mountain the soil is quite different. I'm hoping if I plant in some soil take from there the cuttings will take.
It is good that you found supplies!

My DW found bulk pinto beans yesterday and an Hispanic store

They've shut down eating in a restaurant here but people can order out for now. Stay well!
It is the same here for restaurants and people are allowed out for essential purposes.

It is very quiet at work today!

Anytime something that seems less than likely on FB is something to research. This is one of them
Reuters article on the subject of Italy "not treating people with underlying conditions"
If you don't want to read through it, the upshot is - false.
The slightly longer version is there are more people needing ICU beds than they have even with the operating rooms being converted to ICU beds and they end up prioritizing the patients.

That is something that is mostly not possible in the USA. No fruit and vegetable shops other than Farmer's Markets and in most places that is only in the summer. Big difference when I was in Barcelona many years back and going to the big indoor fruit and veg markets every couple of days.
Here we have a couple of ethnic stores that have a small amount of produce. I do not know if the Davis Farmers market will be running today. It is a Wed Saturday market here

Our local co-op was out of tp and most paper products, had hardly any cleaning materials, was quite thin on fresh fruit and veg, and fish, and had very little fresh meat. But plenty of bread, tins, ready meals, wine, chocolate and ice-cream, so could be a lot worse!
Gotta have chocolate! and ice cream!

Let us know about the farmers market. I am curious about the local Amish market which runs Thurs. - Sat.
