I get those but thankfully not behind a nail. I should know not to handle ply without gloves on but I still get caught out.

I managed to swipe my finger over the subfloor just so to drive it under.

Oh jeez. Cringe and goosebumps reading that. I bet that does hurt. Hopefully, the salve will draw it out sooner than later!

I have had things pierce under my nails not had anything lodged there
that is akin to bamboo under them ..

It has been a long time but have had quite a few splinters under the finger nail of various types.

It is not fun at all!

I drove a Phillips tip driver through my thumb nail. It's still a little wonky to this day. I'd rather do that again than a splinter under the nail.

Dobie Lover hate to rub this in but, if you were a lifelong nail biter this would NEVER have happened. Nail biters tend to bite far enough DOWN the finger, well down from the tip and skin. There is no way for something to get UNDERNEATH. Trust me on this.

I actually had to remove from my Dad thumb the bit on his drill press had drilled him to a board.. I had to back it out and bandage not crying to Ma. He admitted to her later I got a wack on the behind and hug

My work at dad's house was cut rather short today. I drove a splinter under my fingernail and it broke off. I can't get it out and it hurts something awful.
It kind of went in near the edge of my nail so I cut the nail back on the side as far as I could hoping to open up a path for it to come out then packed drawing salve all over it and covered it with a bandage.
It's also hard to type without using that finger...

Ow, that sounds terrible! Hope it gets better soon!
