BYC Café

I had one die at about 2wks this season too. I have no idea why. She looked good, growing out well, eating, drinking, jumping up on the perch, poops looked normal... Then one morning out of nowhere didn’t look good & died in about an hour. So sad & so shocking. I’ve never had that happen before. She was my prettiest chick too.

The do go fast sometimes!

At two to three weeks it could have been coccidiosis of a bacterial infection. She might have had an internal injury too.

At least it did not seem to be something the others had!

She looked like my older Olive egger so yup making more now :yesss:

This is only the second time in my chicken life that I’ve lost a baby chick. It’s horrible.

I can’t wait till the VND restrictions are gone so I can buy from BYC locals again. Seriously, CV19 & VND all at the same time.🤦‍♀️
I know!

I think broody raised birds learn more in a shorter space of time and seem more predator aware.
The broody raised girls I've had do seem to be more wary of everything. Zorra is a Hatchery bird and seemed pretty much oblivious to anything before I gave her the first batch of hatchery chicks when she was 3. Boy did she get attentive to EVERYTHING.

For some reason, I seem to be quite revved up about getting back to work on my dad's house.
Probably because you can see the light at the end of the tunnel and want to get there :D

This is an interesting little bit of a chart.
I didn't realize how many died in the Civil War (which wasn't very civil).

Civil wars are nearly always the most deadly. Some of them have an element of genocide in them

I need help.

Mom got off this nest and left this one.
The membrane was dried up so I put coconut oil on it and picked away the shell that is gone. I don't know anything about this.
I've got it on a damp towel on a heating pad. It's wiggling around and opening it's mouth and sometimes peeping.
