The chicken bush is blooming. I saw a female Baltimore Oriole and a male hummingbird feeding in there.

And Captain catching his breath.

My hair dresser, Amy, came over to cut our hair outside in the glorious sun. I took her in to see the chicks. Mom still hasn't taken them out of the ward.
Fabio sauntered over and I could tell Amy was a little intimidated by him so I picked him up and let her pet him. Captain came over and started acting like a tough guy because I had Fabio. So I put Fabio down away from Cap. About 5 minutes later they started to fight. First time I've ever seen Cap flare his hackles like that at Fabio and try to spar with him. He was badly outmatched by Fabio who developed quite a lot of skill going after me. I broke them up after about a minute of nonsense before anyone got hurt.
Fabio has continued to relentlessly chase Cap off for the last hour.
Captain will probably have a few goes at Fabio. Here this seems to be the norm. Eventually the junior accepts his place. It can look a bit tough but in the end it makes for a peaceful flock. With luck Captain will learn to attract a couple of the junior hens and that will help keep the peace.

He's got Una and Annie.
And he certainly takes whomever else he can run down by the paternity results of the current brood.

That bush is just perfect for chicken cover and shade.
I agree! It's protected from the afternoon sun by the run roof so it's a fantastic place for them to lay on the cool earth on hot days.
I always get a pair of cardinals that nest in there. The flock has gotten used to their comings and goings.

That looks like what we call a firebush around here. But daffodils are called Easter lilies here, too.
It's an old style Quince bush. It's got some wicked thorns on it but not down low where the chickens have made their network of paths.
That is where the shenanigans between the boys ended as they were tripping over branches and it made it easy for me to get a leg between them and send them back to their corners.
