BYC Café

Good morning cafe. Thanks for the coffee Shad. Been up since 1:30 am here. lol
I used to raise a bunch of cockerels each year for customers. I kept them separate from the hens. A couple times I did try to keep a couple of boys with my hens always led to fights. lol
I have been without birds for several years. I am getting 10 chicks soon. I am hoping they will all be pullets like I ordered. If not I will rehome any boys. I don't want to deal with the boys this time around.

That's a bit on the early side!
I've had roosters in the flocks I've cared for. The most here has been nine; all free range. When I was a kid I think there were five or six, also free range.

Shame really but breaking up rooster fights isn't on the top of my entertainment list either.
They get a bit indiscriminate when they're seeing red.
You may find in the long run that just one rooster is the best solution.

Those boys were like a broody in a trance. They would have attacked a tree stump just to attack something.

I hope not in my case! Love my boys :love

I'm giving up Cap because I love him too. He needs his own flock. The decisions that hurt me are always for the best for the bird and the flock in general. He really is quite a character.

This morning Missy wouldn't leave Cap. He kept nesting down in the corner of the Ward and she would nest down with him right on the other side of the HC and they were cooing to each other. Then Missy would go over to the door. So I opened it and in she went and was immediately jumped. But then the two nested in the corner that Kerrie liked to take the kids for the night. When I left the coop they were happily cooing to each other. So at least he can have a girlfriend until I find a new home for him.
Kerrie did in fact think that maybe it wasn't such a hot idea to try to roost with 8 chicks trying to get under and on her for the night so she stayed on the coop floor with them last night.

Bella managed to kill two juvenile woodchucks today. She killed one earlier in the week too.
The first one she killed I never heard a thing. There it was dead on the ground at her feet. The two she went after today are both just as dead but she cried both times because both of them bit her. I couldn't see any blood on her when I called her over to take a look. I'll have to do a more thorough exam when I get her home and clean her up.
She needs to improve her kill technique. All my other Dobermans would pick up the woodchuck and shake it vigorously to snap the neck. She picks up the woodchuck and just squeezes.

Couldn't you find any decent computers then?:p
Sadly I have to purchase what they want. Most of the English Faculty want macs. We can get better computers with the enterprise Dell systems with a very big discount.

Apple does not give UC more than a standard Educational discount

If you purchase pullets, It is a 95% correct rate. Rarely a boy sneaks through and sometimes they send one or two as packing nuggets.

That should not happen this time of year though

sorry I shouldn't laugh, 'cos it's infuriating when it happens to oneself, but it reminds me of a seaside town where my parents used to live, where local shops' opening times were 'erratic' (to put it politely).
Here in Woodland, even though the population is in the 60,000 range, Many business act like a sea side type of town! Many close for the Day on Sunday or Monday...losing a days worth of income.

You do not see this in Sacramento LOL!

When I first moved to Wilmington, we still had remnants of the old blue laws. A lot of businesses weren't open on Sunday, and even those that were had restrictions on what they could sell and when. Because we are very much a resort community, most businesses are now open on Sunday (unless the owner has a religious conviction about it), but a lot of restaurants are not open on Monday or even Tuesday - the typically low customer counts on those days don't make it worthwhile to pay the staff to be there.
