Lewis Wright
The practical poultry keeper: a complete and standard guide to the management of poultry, whether for domestic use, the markets, or exhibition Cassell & Co., London and elsewhere, 1985. I discovered it at Gladstone's library, and managed to pick up a copy online. It went through many, many editions (a reliable sign of how well it was received). But that can lead to problems when citing specifics because he was updating between editions. Mine is 23rd edition, and it does not repeat some of the things I noted from the earlier (undated) edition that Gladstone owned...
I also find a lot of good sense in The Hon.Mrs Arbuthnott
The henwife: her own experience in her own poultry-yard Jack, Edinburgh, 1868, which is available free online as a pdf from Cornell Uni.
