BYC Café

Good morning Cafe.
Thanks for the coffee Shad.
Nice autumnal day here, albeit weeks early.

I still haven't found what I need to give him leg armour and let the leg breathe.
One of my old books recommends paper soaked in egg white, put on like plaster of paris, for leg breaks. Might that work?

I think I have a murderous hen in the flock. Yesterday Ruthin, 3 months old and right as rain just an hour before, was found dead, sort of trapped under one of the bench struts, with no visible sign of injury bar two peck wounds where her beak meets her cheek. At the time I wondered if one of the cocks had accidentally broken her neck (they are starting to try mate the May clutch). But this morning while pooh-picking I witnessed Usk jump onto the back of Kenfig and ferociously peck at her head, within arm's length of me. I swatted her off, but do not know what to do now; any advice folks?

Me? If I saw that, I'd lock up Usk for a few days then let her back out and see if that adjusted her attitude. Maybe even isolate her in view of the flock until the pullets start laying or she starts molting.

thanks Tonya; that was my inclination too. Now I just have to catch her...

Good morning! Perris, sorry you have to deal with that. It is cloudy here from massive amounts of smoke from everywhere west. I also hope the CA peeps are doing okay. It is seriously sketch out there. DS@ is still on the Grizzly Creek fire, out of contact or too tired and busy to deal. I know they have spiked out some of the crews to build fires lines and back-up fire lines.
Yesterday, we got the gravel and then built a flagstone patio and then moved the ginormous picnic table over to the spot. I will have to get a pic. The table was milled from the timber that we were taking out for fire mitigation a couple of years ago.
Good Luck on the field trials, Sour! Have fun re-building, DL!
Enjoy the weekend, Cafe! Hugs too!

I too feel like I’m not getting anything accomplished. Between the heat & most of the stuff I’ve ordered recently missing parts, I’ve been pretty much stymied. :hmm

I’ve been able to do chores & run errands, though lifting cement blocks & bags of sand is no fun when you’re panting into a mask in 100* weather. I have about an hour window at mosquito-thirty where I brave the blood suckers & I have the bites to prove it.

I’m worried sick about my CA peeps. :hugsStay safe guys!
Thanks!

So far we are fine in Woodland-- I do have to watch the air quality
