The big difference is that supported OS's are patched when a vulnerability is found.

I would not do banking on a Win 7 computer.

At present I am running this old lenovo laptop with Win8.1 and never ever would do private banking on a computer no matter the operating system.

Sadly we need to learn how to use the new OS versions as they come out

But we can choose what to use and what to skip.

I can't! Work will not allow not supported computers on the network. For you at home, you can for a while but laptops will die

We have several computers, but it is only this old laptop we use to go www. This way we keep our other systems clean. And removable hard disks come in as very useful too.

And yes, retirement has its benefits as I no longer have to consider other than my own preferences.
