I've been resisting following more threads, but I'm giving in and add this one. Y'all are just to interesting!

@DobieLover , are you an electrician...? I have an electrical question that I don't know where to start on.
Welcome!

There is a house that had electricity, but it too is off. The property's buildings have been vacant (except for raccoons and other critters, grrrr) for 10+ years. The electricity to the house and pole barn (and a regular barn and another out building) all comes from one central place, as far as I know. We are out in the boonies, about 10 miles away from the nearest town.

At one time, the property was a working farm. The barn had an old hay trolley along the peak. The pole barn is much more recent, but still probably 40 years old, I'm guessing. It had a small engine repair business in it. I would LOVE to find out the history of this place. If those walls could talk...

We have talked about renovating the old house. It has "good bones," but would take a huge amount of work. We have had at least three people want to buy the property, but it's not for sale.

My husband wants to have a shop/work area in the pole barn. I would love for him to have that too. Having electricity would make it a wonderful workspace. I'm just wondering if we're looking at $1k, or $10k or ???

I sure do appreciate everyone's help and opinions. BYC is the greatest.
It would seem to me that the sensible way forward with your problem would be to get a quote from a couple of electricians rather than ask on a chicken forum.
