BYC Café

Morning and thanks for the hot coffee! I will try the coconut swirl, Loreli!
Something new can also help with getting out of your head.
I have a new, bought on clearance, pair of hiking boots. I now need to get them broken in for the season. As much as I love my current boots, it is time to retire them as I have walked the soles off and they are not repairable. Usually, I destroy the tops and sides with all of the walking across hills and barn work, but I kept them oiled and out of the barn, so they are decent enough to pass on instead of trashing.
Another nice day here! Have fun shoveling! I am sure my turn is coming...

She would be three in the spring. I lost Lucy last year with a similar end. When I got them, I didn't realize just how prolific their laying would be. I love the breed. Lucy was particularly spunky but very personable. But I'd never get another one.
I have Lucy's daughter, Una, but with Fabio being her father, she is not as petite as a WLH. I hope that mix makes her more vigorous and longer lived.
Some breeds are like that! Sexlinks are especially short lived

Good morning, cafe. Thanks for the coffee, DL! Glad to hear Seneca wasn't trying to pass another egg, but still... more work. Poor girl.

Welcome to the Cafe, @Loreli ! Wishing you a better day :hugs

@Mtn Margie - I know our turn is coming, too. It's nothing but brown around here  50% chance of snow forecasted for Friday and it's supposed to get cold!

Chooks got a special treat today.
Electrolytes/Vitamins soaked up into some rolled oats.
Will bolster them for the coming very cold weather.

Well front sidewalk is cleared. 3/4 of parking area and the Princess's car are cleared. My mailbox was apparently 'killed' by the snowplow last night. I guess I did a good job on securing the pole as it is still there - support arm and mailbox snapped off. If I can find the same mailbox system, all I will have to do is replace the support bar. :fl

As Faverolle eggs

...and put a warning/alarm light way up on top for the snowplow's next round.

As Faverolle eggs are rather medium sized and their laying activity equally moderate, Una should be fine.

At the moment, I do have a little patient too: my special Araucana hen named 'Limpet', she will be 6 years old in March.

She does not like chickens (prefers humans) and usually hides from them somewhere in the bushes or - with the actual confinement orders in place - under the poop board to avoid contact with her peers.
This of course leads to malnourishment and dehydration, so I have to take her in every other day now, to serve the lady in our kitchen.

But something else must be wrong with her, as sometimes her empty crop has gas which I need to gently squeeze out, for her to start eating. This happens every 7-10 days, but the intervals getting shorter.

Tonight she does not want to eat at all, I could just lure her to take some rolled oats floating on the surface of the water bowl, which at least made her drink some.
She has always been very quirky and laid her first egg while sitting on my lap and hiding her head in the crook of my arm. Although she was hatched and raised by a broody, ever since she was a few days old, she preferred human contact and would climb up my leg and arms incessantly talking until sitting on my shoulder to ride around the yard.

Sounds like she's got sour crop.
