BYC Café

Oil-fired heating system plus two wood burners.

Thankfully the wood burners heat up the living space rather quickly.
Is there an echo in here today or is it just me? 🤔

In the teens this morning.
FB wattle necrosis broke(or was pecked) off yesterday, 'lots' of blood on her chest last night.
Hope it's fine this morning.

Decluttering old bed linens and pillows, buying new today.
Trip into the 'big city' for several items......
road trip in the SUN!

How do you cope with the reduced number of chickens? Do you feel the relief already or does the grief still prevail, @DobieLover ?
Both.
It's easier caring for less birds. But the loss was so recent it still stabs me when I think of them. They were all lovely birds.

When I make decisions to sell hens, I sell hens that I am not particularly attached to or hens whose removal from my flock will be an improvement. The two ladies that went to a new home Friday were 1) a nut case who abuses the chicks she hatches, plucks the beards and muffs of her flock mates and seems to be disliked by most members of the flock; 2) a perpetual broody. Good mom but she was a little OCD about raising kids.

Getting rid of these two extremes seems to be beneficial for the flock then, do you notice relief in their behaviour?

:yesss: Yes! We deserve the best linens and pillows around, right?

I am so sick and tired of "although threadbare, this still works" etc.

Not really.
I thought Kylie was missing Kerrie (an admitted brief bout of anthropomorphising on my part). Saturday morning Kylie was very vocal walking around in the coop clucking. Then I realized she was one of the egg providers in the mass nest and was just irritated she couldn't access the site any longer. She begrudgingly took nest box number 1 and did her business.
