Sunchokes are very sweet and I use them like potatoes. Fantastic alongside eggs and bacon. However, you have to get used to them slowly because they have lots of inulin in them and most people do not regularly eat plants with lots of inulin. If you overindulge too quickly, you will get very gassy and feel like a colicky horse. Inulin is a great fiber for diabetics as it does not cause spikes and such when digested.
I've read that they are less 'farty' if you harvest after the frost.

Yesterday, our dog Mara had several grand mal seizures. We took her to Animal Emergency Hospital in Grand Rapids. Things were not good, and we chose to say goodbye to our lovely girl this afternoon.

RIP, Mara. You were and are much loved. We'll see you at the Rainbow Bridge with Shadow and Raven.
So sorry for the loss of your pal. They do leave an empty spot in your heart.

We didn't float away last night! :weeBut we did have some torrential downpours.
It's supposed to be cloudy today with two sunny (but too hot) days for the weekend.
I love it when it pours before a heat wave, gets the humidity up there.<readsasfacetioussarcasm>

Supposed to rain here this morning, not likely to happen.
All day clouds will be nice tho.
It's crispy out there.
Glad for the low humidity here during the day peaks of near 90...
....and that the night temps are still below 70.
Am NOT looking forward to the heat, it slays me,
and a bit worried about the chicks getting flushed out of the coolest spots.

I found a potential supplier for firewood on Marketplace. I asked how long the logs were cut as my stove is very small and can only receive a 16-in log. The supplier replied with "15 to 20 ft".
What the heck did she think I meant when I asked for the log length?
What wood supplier worth their salt answers like that?!
Needless to say I will not be using that firewood supplier.
