We're getting a second estimate on taking down the 4 trees too close to the house today. The first estimate was $4800, and I said yes. Then the actual cutting crew took a look and said, they didn't budget nearly enough time. The second time they came back with $6000.

I was actually a little surprised at the first estimate. The estimator called me and apologized for not getting it right the first time. He said he'd refund my deposit and surely understood if I wanted to get more quotes. So quote number 2 today, number 3 next week.

I've told people when I call to ask for them to come quote the job that they will need a climber, and they can't get a crane back here.

Do you have new pullets laying....or are your molting birds actually laying?
My pullets are only 14 and 11 weeks old, so it is the molting adults that still lay.

I usually feel a tad guilty when doing a foxfeed cull, but not so much this time.
So why didn't you butcher and process him then?

Good morning everyone!

A fresh pot of hot coffee is on the counter, so hepl yourselves to a nice cup and join me.

Autumn is in full swing, the leaves begin to fall and the rain just won't stop. Chickens are molting heavily, but thankfully they still lay a nice number of eggs daily.
It is strange to read about Fall! We are in full blown fire season here. PGE has sent a warning about cutting off power to customers in 14 or so counties here tonight. Luckily not too many customers in my county.

Yes, it is very early.

But for the past years already we noticed the growing discrepancy between the calendrical and the actual seasons/weather. And a lot of others noticed and commented on this phenomenon too.

Wow. That's a lot. I had 2 large oaks, 2 large pines, one medium and one small pine removed and about 30 stumps ground out for about $2800 at my dad's house.
The first guy quoted half that work for $4500.
Always get multiple quotes.

Ah, just drop them and hope they don't hit anything important
You mean like the house? I can literally touch the house and these trees at the same time. One is arched way over the house, reaching for sunlight; the others all have large limbs over the house. The youngest of these trees is probably 60 years old.

Why didn't the BUTTHEAD who built the house take them down before it was built? Idiot.

The guy who came today sounds like he can do the job for way less than the other quote. He also thinks I'll get 8-10 yards of wood chips out of the deal too.

:celebrate:wee:ya:woot:thumbsup

Yup, I got a use for all of them.

I have one more quote coming next week.
