All four coops cleaned and all 40 chickens treated for scaly leg mites and lice (prevention only). Phewwwww.

It gets cumbersome and I really will reduce their number significantly by next year, starting by butchering some of the oldest next weekend.

The smoke smell is actually not bad this afternoon - maybe I just can't smell it anymore? We're the floor below the fire, so I think most of the smell drifted up into the higher levels. Thankfully it's not as bad as I feared.

And those living conditions sound horrible. I have never witnessed anything like that and hope that I never do...

I have never seen anything like it. I didn't mention the profanities written all over the upstairs walls or the washing machine in the middle of the kitchen with hoses going out the kitchen window.
