Um, in "high season" you only need maybe 2 chickens to make 1 frittata per week. In the down time it doesn't matter how many chickens you have since they aren't laying

We use 8 eggs every weekend for bacon and eggs for breakfast. So, 20 a week with a frittata, and even more for baking.

I don't know if the pullets who started laying in November will lay next winter. I have one pullet who has yet to start (at 38 weeks!), but she better make up for it next winter!

I plan to water glass some eggs this summer/fall to have some for the "lean times."

Neither of my June Ameraucanas have laid yet. The 2 BAs and the 2 Wyandots started a couple of months ago. I generally don't expect my girls to lay in the winter other than their first.

It depends on if the breed are winter layers or not.

See, that's why I need DH to *need* more chickens. I want to have gobs of eggs to waterglass. Then I'll have plenty of eggs for the winter. Maybe.

We got a weather alert for white out condition snow squalls. They FINALLY got it right!

Struck here at 2:30 and lasted about 20 minutes. Wind has even decreased, but temperature has dropped quite a bit.

Wind and snow was supposed to be over by noon....nope, guess driveway can wait until tomorrow...hopefully the temp rise waits until afternoon.

We got some decent drifts out of whatever snow fell. Decided to just stay home today.

And... My first 5 egg day! Now the slacker Jubilee Orpington who is 37 weeks old needs to get with it! She's looking close. Do Orps normally take this long?

6 eggs today!
But one hen with noisy breathing, hopefully just gobbled feed too fast and will clear up.
Finally stopped blowing and snowing, all ready for throwing early tomorrow.
