With the early sunrise and no auto door on the coop, I get up early to feed the girls and let them out.

With a big enough coop and feeder, no need to rise with them

Very true! I think I have a big enough coop, but I don't put water in it, and I take the feed out at night. In fact, I take all the feed and water out of the run too, so I don't attract mice.

I don't mind getting up to let them out around 6ish. My morning chicken chores take about 10 minutes. If I want to stay up and start my day early I do. If I don't, I just go back to bed.

Morning! Here's another pot, as I surely need some. With the early sunrise and no auto door on the coop, I get up early to feed the girls and let them out. (Not going to get an auto door, so I know what I'm in for.)

The sun is breaking through, and it looks like it's going to be a gorgeous day.

Good morning Cafe and thanks for the coffee Shad.
I had the unfortunate displeasure of watching a small flock of English sparrows raid my chicken feed troughs this morning. And the chickens just kept eating around these little thieving birds! They peck each other to get out of the food but they won't peck the sparrows?!
A little miss Jody has gone very broody again. So instead of locking her in the breaker I locked her down in the maternity ward. I promised her and Tink that they would both be able to hatch a couple of eggs this year but she's got to do it in the right spot.

You must have very docile chicken breeds!

The Spanish breeds will attack birds, mice, rats and etc. that come near them during the daytime!

Good morning, and here's a fresh pot of coffee.

A neighbor took down a tree and was wondering what to do with all the brush. I told her I'd bring over my chipper and chop it up. She counter-suggested that she have her helper (a young kid who helps with the yard work) haul it over to my place instead. Deal!

Lima, one of the Ex Battery hens at the allotments is a rat killer. Some of the others will chase wild birds away from the food.

I watched Missy stroll right by a sparrow in the feed trough this morning. The only way to stop them is to not let the flock out of the run into the pen. I do not want to do that.
They will gleefully rip a frog apart and eat it and peck a toad to death but let the sparrows steal their food.
