BYC Café

It's 80° here. I am really tired from that marathon day yesterday. Up early, chicken swap, fixing up a new window in my friend's coop, running fencing for the goose run. Driving 2 hours back home, unload animals, and still had to wash pots etc. Ready for a day of rest.

Some needed rain today, and cool. I had a fire in the woodstove last night, and just built one now. Probably going to have a few later this week, too.

My Jubilee Orpington, Widget, is probably broody again. :barnieIf she is on the nest past noon tomorrow, I'm getting out the breaker. She usually lays in the morning, and she is a bit of a lounger, but past noon to 1pm is unusual for her. I hope she wants to be a mom next spring when I can handle having chicks. Now is just not a good time.

Good morning Cafe. Thanks for the coffee Shad.
We have nice sunny skies, it's 50 out and I have my first load of wash on the line.

I rebuilt the chicken stairs into the coop with two more cap stones and some bricks.
It was really just an excuse to loiter in the coop and chase the song birds out. The sparrows are drawing in more species. I saw a Phoebe and a cat bird too.
I gave Fabio a good stern lecture this morning about his shortcomings in driving out the thieves. He didn't seem to care. Wait until his annual review comes up and he gets demoted...
Henry doesn't care about the wild birds either. The hens on the other hand, well it's food the wild birds are stealing and what's more it's their food!
I wouldn't dream of drawing any gender based conclusions for this observation.:p

Good morning Cafe.
Thanks for the coffee DL.
Trying to get the new coop base constructed. No power tools and the constant threat of rain plus all the chicken help I'm getting is slowing things down past the already painfully slow progress.

Hot coffee! Lovin it!
We had some rain overnight and it is 50F. DH and I are helping a friend down at the lower ranch today. DS$ is turning in a job application at a construction company (pipeline.)
It seems like I just caught back up on the list of things to do and now the end is out of sight again.

No power tools? Sad state of affairs!
