BYC Café

Good morning, Cafe', and thanks for the coffee. Another triple digit day projected here.
I was disappointed when weather underground said that today was going to be much like yesterday....104F again for a high!

Another triple digit day projected here.
Temp or heat index?

3rd day here, last 2 days weren't toooo bad, low humidity and yesterdays high winds helped.
Plus I ran errands yesterday so spent some time in AC.
Nights below 80 really help for me.

Here we get real temps and not real feel. I have posted before that there is a big difference between real feel and an actual temperature.

People die more from a real 120F temp. If the real temp is 105 and the real feel is 120, You will die like it is 105 not 120. It is the same with chickens. If a real temp is over 105 and you do note give them some form of shade and cooling, they will start to die. If the real temp is 95, they will be fine without much cooling.

I have read about people that went to the Mohave desert to feel what 120F felt like but acted like 120 was a real feel temp. That makes no sense and many died from that each year.

That is why I am still in Western Washington :lau
I had one hen die after the last heat wave. She was old though!

So far so good with this one. I am keeping the mist system on for at least 5 hours a day though. If it is still over 95F at 6pm, I run them for another couple of hours.

Might look at mist system for the banty. Lost mine last year in the heat .. These are all young just started laying. Still would rather not losse them.
Thanks for the heads up.
I have orbit misting lines. I can pick and choose the number of mist nozzles.
