Oh my... somebody else who knows what "barking your shins" means! I use that phrase and nobody know what I'm talking about!

Glad you're ok, @aart.
I had to search the ROM to get that word out. :D
Yeah, am OK, few abrasions(barking), some areas that might bruise.
Spooked me tho and I took some ibuprofen to ease 'the day after' symptoms.
I shoulda known better, but I've been risking it for a couple years.

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.
Last day of work.
The rescue that has the min pin I wanted has denied my application. They said they tested her around large dogs and she was uncomfortable and felt it would be too stressful for her.

Who really knows. I was also told by the people that had Fuji and turned her over to our rescue org that she was TERRIFIED of all men. I never saw that behavior in her. Ever. So many people anthropomorphize animals and think they understand their behavior when all they do is end up making things worse. It could have been vibes the dog was picking up on the non-large dog owning foster or from the dog itself. I can guarantee that that little girl would have thrived in my care with my happy, stable, well adjusted dogs. Their loss.

Good morning Cafe! Thanks for the coffee DL.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I lost quite a bit of faith in rescue groups after they told someone we knew that they couldn't take in their 5 month old puppy as he was only suited to be a guard dog due to behavioural issues, so they should put him down. The family was devastated and almost went through with the euthanasia appointment. I took that puppy in, corrected his aggressive behaviour in about 3 weeks, and he is still happily living with my cousin and her two kids (it's been 6 years now) with no sign of his past tendencies at all. Both my father and sister are veterinarians, so I have grown up around animals and understand them well. I would not have taken in a dog that I thought was actually dangerous, but this one clearly had fixable behavioural issues. That rescue organization should have told them the truth. They saw behaviour problems and didn't have the time or resources to deal with it.

Rescues don't always make the right decisions. Some don't even want to give a possible alternative a try (even if it's something that might work). I tried to find a rescue Jack Russell back in 2018. There were none available in Canada for the six months I was looking, so I asked many organizations in the U.S. and the response was always, "we don't adopt outside our zip code area". I was willing to drive down and do all the paperwork (and show that I had a support network set up back home), but it still was not enough to have them even consider anyone outside the area. How can you say you are looking out for the best interest of the dog if you are passing on so many potentially fantastic homes with people who care deeply for them. I ended up getting a puppy here in Canada from a lady who occasionally breeds working Jack Russells, but treats them as family members and is extremely picky where they go (they're registered working dogs). I have had many rescue JRTs in the past, but it is becoming more and more difficult to adopt, even when there is one available. I am at a time of life where a rescue pitbull or shepherd-cross are not appropriate for me, but that is practically all we are able to adopt in Nova Scotia.

That stinks!
I have very little positive regard for most the people in the 'rescue' realm.
It's a very odd game.

Same here.

Good morning, and thanks for the coffee.

As in all things 'people' and profit are involved. Prior to getting Maggie we had explored rescuing and found many/most groups restrictive and unrealistic.

Same with Dobermans. And apparently min pins.

I don't want a puppy and too many "breeders" don't know their own breed well enough to breed for quality dogs, health being of utmost importance. And then there are the mills and backyard breeders which no one should ever support.
I only want to offer a home to a dog in need but it has to fit my household. I don't want a "fragile" min pin that has been breed too petite. They are sturdy, bold little dogs. I want a little pistol like Fuji was that can go on the hikes with my current dogs.
Which makes me wonder about the validity of the girl I wanted to adopt being scared is large dogs. I've never met a min pin that was afraid of any dog.
