We're going to get some wind tomorrow too, though probably less than you, @aart, as we're farther inland. I think it's going to be a good "get indoor stuff done" day. Unless the power goes out...

I finally ordered new glasses. Had the eye exam last July, just never got around to going to the glasses place. The exam was with an ophthalmologist, not at LensCrafters or whatever place is at the mall. I wanted someone who really knows what they're doing to look at everything.

A biiit of sticker shock on the glasses. Of course, I liked the really (REALLY) expensive frames the best. I'm very allergic to nickel, so I've been getting titanium frames for many years. (I don't like how plastic frames look on me.) I'll have these frames for a long time, through several lens prescriptions. When I think of the cost that way, it's not as bad.

So. After being denied another two dogs I applied for (one because I have no fenced in yard (really, how many people actually have a fenced in yard??) and again, because I have a "large" dog (grrr!)), I have done the unthinkable and put a deposit down on a PUPPY from a Min Pin breeder in MO!!
This little girl.

I am having the breeder get her ears cropped by her trusted vet and she will stay with the breeder and her mother until 12 weeks old. I want her to have more training from her mother. And I paid a little extra for the breeder to start puppy pad training her with the pad in a small crate for her to learn to pee on it in there as well as working on her outside potty training.
There is no way a Min Pin is going to be able to hold it long enough for me to get home from work even with the mid-day potty breaks my dogs get so I want her pad trained too. Fuji would often miss the pad. If it's in a small crate with the door left open, it will be impossible to miss.
I've asked the breeder to change her name to Piper. In honor of the Min Pin I saw in VT that lit this flame inside me.
I should have her the week before Christmas!
I haven't been this excited about something is probably a decade.

I have very little positive regard for most the people in the 'rescue' realm.
It's a very odd game.

Regrettably having dealt with a few of the UK organisations I'm of the same opinion. Most of the end point receivers are well intentioned but I can't help wondering if the rescue oraganisations were more honest about the problems the new keepers are likely to face, whether these poor creatures would be taken in.

Um, a lot of people with dogs? If not a physical fence, an "invisible" electric one. The other option for a great many people is to tie the dog up when it is outside. Not good animal husbandry in my mind.

Most of the dog owners I know do not have physical or underground fences. But then, most of the dog owners I know live rural. I think an exception should be made for those people who have a plan to deal with that. It isn't like I live on a busy street, with lots of neighbors or leave my dog outside unattended.
I get the impression that they aren't really carefully vetting out applications.
