Yes, it's always incredibly sad when the animal being necropsied is pregnant... we had a mix of natural and human-caused deaths in the 12 individuals we did (5 seals - grey, harbour, and harp, 6 harbour porpoises, and 1 common dolphin).
I saw a video recently that was discussing the whale deaths caused by off shore wind turbine installations. I had no idea. That's just tragic.

a busy weekend full of necropsies
Fascinating.

Yeah, getting freezing rain right now. Parts of our driveway are ice already, so it's a good day to stay home, for sure.
Hope you keep your power...stay safe!

Raining buckets here this morning, but above freezing.
Some thunder and lightning too.... and rather windy
Had to clear the drain swale, but garage didn't flood.
Postponed today's planned errand run.
4" of snow forecast for Friday

Yes, even "green" technology can have far-reaching impacts. Often with wind farms it's more displacement than death (which is still really not a good thing), but there are risks to everything...

He was bummed but he still gets to go and help the team and see what it looks like for Next Year!
And, on the off chance someone can't go or gets injured, he'll be there to sub in :D

whale deaths caused by off shore wind turbine
I googled that and came up with:
"There has been a lot of talk about wind turbines and whale deaths, but there is no evidence whatsoever connecting the two. Meanwhile, the oceans face more threats now than at any time in history,” said Arlo Hemphill, Greenpeace USA’s project lead on deep sea mining,"

They're too new to know all the consequeces. I have not seen any proper scientific records of death linked to them, but I know there is major displacement of whales and dolphins due to the vibrations caused by them (lots of good studies on this from Europe on this available). However, the activities of building them sometimes involves blasting and drilling (plus shipping traffic) all of which have been linked in other situations (non wind turbine) to some casualties unfortunately.

Almost all the whale deaths along the east coast recently (this unusual surge of humpbacks, right whales, etc. in the past month) have actually been linked to ship strikes :( If you are ever looking for a thought provoking book to read, Micheal Moore's "We Are All Whalers" is a good one....

I'm making progress cleaning out and organizing my basement but the dust! It's like I've kept a flock of chickens down there for a couple years. I'm coughing again.

I actually found my passport that has my married name on it and expired in 2015! And some pictures from back when I was in my teens and had ferrets. Oh my god that '80s hair!
