Good morning Cafe! Thanks for the coffee DL!

It's HOT here today. No break. Second year I've tried to grow ranunculus and it's just not happening when the temperatures swing from steady below freezing to sky high in two weeks.

She FINALLY hit three successful returns to the wet nest on her own

.....and I'm still trying to get the Stubborn Broody to QuitThatSh!t.
She stayed out most the day, but was still clucking and in the nest at lock up.
I shoulda covered the nests....will do so this evening.


Plan to haul the short ladder around and open all the windows today.
Fan install tomorrow.
Gonna get in the high 80's all next week, tho cooling at night and low humidity at peak temps. I hate the hot weather

I shoulda covered the nests....will do so this evening.

Widget did the same thing. I let her out of the crate yesterday, and she was out all day. I did head count at lock up, and she was in the nest. I hadn't take the crate out, so I put her back in for the night.

If she stays out today and goes into the nest at dusk, I'll just put her on the roost and cover the nest boxes. She wasn't clucking this morning in her usual broody voice, so I hope she's done. For this time, anyway.

While age and activities have beaten my body,

Please send the rain clouds over - it’s been horribly dry this year and the garden needs it!

We had a bit of as drizzle yesterday in the morning. Still had to water the garden in the early evening.

We’ve got a huge forest fire burning only 14km away from where I am in Halifax right now… a couple dozen houses have been lost from the reports. Out of control, wind isn’t helping. Jumped between the two red circles within an hour. I should be safe here, but on fire watch for now. Air quality is awful outside and blackened burnt pine needles are raining down on the deck. I’m where the blue dot is.
