Good Morning!
Mother and I are going on a road trip today. Heading to the Twin Cities for a Christmas party at my aunt’s house. Many of the cousins I grew up with will be there. Thai is my aunt’s first holiday season without my uncle (they were married for 61 1/2 years when he passed). It’s 7 hours round trip. Going to be a long day, but worth it.
Our day will start when Mom (83) arrives here in an hour. She will get out of the drivers seat and get into the passengers seat while saying, “I’ll let you drive, but you ‘know’ I can still do it….” And I tell her, “Of course I know you can. If I didn’t think so, I‘d take your keys.” Somewhere down the road she’ll sign and tell me how boring it is to just be sitting there, and I’ll tell her that I know, because when DH and I go anywhere he always drives because he’s a terrible passenger and I get tempted to leave him on the side of the road.
DH will not be going. He likes my family, just not all in the same place at the same time in confined spaces. (He gets twitchy if there are more than 2 people in a room.) So he jumped at the chance to spend the day with GD who came for a sleepover last night. She’s excited about her “Grampa and me day.” (We have decided that DH needs the t-shirt that says, “You can’t tell me what to do. You’re not my Granddaughter!”
Have a happy weekend, everyone!
