BYC Café

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

We had a short, intense downpour yesterday so I didn't have to water the new grass I planted or veggie garden. It made my bog and pond overflow so the plants around them also got some extra watering.

I'm hoping to mow the lawn this morning after I run the dogs. Then finish up the little bit of mulching that is needed (there is one heaping wheelbarrow left of mulch).

Nephews are supposed to come over to help finish cleaning out the coop. I have serious doubts that this will happen.

One more 90+ day...tomorrow high of 73.
That cold front supposed to bring heavy rain and possible severe winds this evening and overnight.

Not sure my stubborn broody is actually broody, tho she still clucks and is in nest at night-that might be some pecking order crap.
Time to change techniques.

Yeah, the weather breaks today/tonight. I'm hoping that nothing severe happens in Holland, MI; today is the Holland Celtic Festival.

We're going, regardless of the weather. Crossbow is playing at 8:00, so we'll be there late. Thank goodness the music is under tents, and they're the big heavy kind, not just pop ups. If we get wind strong enough to take those down... whoo boy...

Sounds fun!!!

Surprise, surprise. They showed up but failed to make definitive plans and I was out running the dogs when I got a call they were at the house. I can't seem to get through to these kids that you need to finalize things so everyone knows when and where to be. SMH.

It took me about 2 hours to finish cleaning the coop. Savannah was on her nest throughout the entire ordeal. I drop the box fan from the window so it blows across her during the days because it's so stinking hot. So it was also keeping the dust from getting to her too badly.

One of her look alike sisters, Morgan, came in during the sweep out and kept trying to scratch together a pile of shavings to lay in. I kept sweeping them away. She then went begrudgingly to a nest box. I slit open two bags of shavings and proceeded to spread them out. Morgan took one look at that and hopped into the pile and went back to her chosen corner to start making a nest.

I quickly got to work on the nest boxes to get them rebedded with a thicker layer of straw, went back into the coop and yanked her of her newly made nest and just set her on the perch in front of the boxes. She jumped right into one and started wiggling herself in and organizing the straw to her liking. Another premadonna.

How on earth do people convince a hen to lay in a roll away box? Mine would never.
