Just finished my coffee in the company of my sleepy 11 year old Dutch Ini mini.

I don’t know when exactly she hatched, but it must be somewhere in May. I bookmarked it on the 23th.

Wow....11 years old hen....it is like 100th in human age, very good age. I hope some of my chickens live that long with me....

Last year I had 3 chickens passed, all through euthanasia at the Vet. This year, I hope and pray.....that all my chickens are good.

Good Morning All,

I am having tea now, already had coffee at 5am.

Found 2 no shell eggs in the coop this morning, ....later this morning will be jamming down 3 hens throat calcium citrate +D. They don't like to take tablet. I don't know who dune it for 1 of the no shell egg so they all get the tablet. I hope and pray that all be good tomorrow.

I am making another coffee now, will be hyperactive drinking 2 cups of coffee in such a short time in between.

Wow....11 years old hen....it is like 100th in human age, very good age. I hope some of my chickens live that long with me....

I don’t think 100 in human age is right. Very old chickens can become 20. So that makes Ini mini more like 60yo.
I have two black Dutch that hatched a year later on May 10, they became 10 yo. Both look great and still lay eggs in spring. Not sure if Ini mini did this year.

Last year I had 3 chickens passed, all through euthanasia at the Vet. This year, I hope and pray.....that all my chickens are good.

3 in one year is too much.

In 2021 I had 3 deads too. Different causes: Internal infection (after several soft shells). Sudden death over night. Fox.

It is very painful painful when chickens pass away... It is never less pain.

60 in human year, then your Ini mini still very young.
10 years old hen..that is good long age and still laying eggs.
I too hope and pray the calcium tablet work!

I read that the oldest living chicken was 15 or 16.

3 in one year is too much.

That depends on how large your flock is and how old they are. I've lost 3 in a year more than once. I expect something along those lines this year as the oldest birds continue to age out.
