Today is Freya's annual check up. I'm dreading this. They take her out of the exam room to do all the blood draw/shots stuff. Last time, she bite someone. This has never been a problem before, certainly not when they did that stuff in the room with me/hubby there.

So this time, she has "calming meds." Gabapentin pills last night and this morning. They also want her to have acepromazine as a muscle relaxant half an hour before.

Hubby ok'd the gabapentin, but said she is NOT having the acepromazine, which is a muscle relaxant and can last up to 7 hours.

I really want them to do the stuff in the exam room with us there.

I hope I'm worrying about nothing.

Then insist on it. She's your dog and you are their customer. Tell them that she'll be less afraid if you are there with her and you absolutely insist. If they keep taking her where you can't see and do things like muzzle her or handle her roughly it's only going to exacerbate her fear going to the vet which will also transfer into a fear of the car that took her there.

I've even assisted with C sections. I never leave my dogs unless it's a scheduled surgery. I did leave Maggie Mae when she was euthanized. :( I just couldn't stay.

I have friends who do it for me. I don't care what technique is used provided it is quick and humane. HTG is by far the most reliable and he uses a hatchet.

I would get him set up with her then. You would both need to take precautions anytime you visited her or she you to protect your flock but this sounds like the best solution for all.
You should work now to find an ethical breeder for whatever bantam breed from which you want a rooster then when one of your girls goes broody again, give her 6 hatching eggs. Let your flock raise your rooster.
I am moving my tiny rooster to mom this weekend, today is his last 5 days of medication, he is better, crowing his tiny mighty crow and is quite stress out hearing all the egg songs and not seeing any lovely lady.

Spring is here....so the broodiness is going to be rampaging to no end. Baby chicks .......:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy

DL, I am crazy about mother hen sitting on eggs and hatching chicks❤️:jumpy

The vet visit is over, thank goodness. Nobody got bit, Freya got her vaccines, and they got the blood drawn. I said we wanted them to do everything in the exam room with us, and that was fine by them. Yay.

It was a horrible struggle. Freya had to be muzzled, they had to give her a different muscle relaxant. She would NOT let them draw blood. What should have taken 10-15 minutes took about 40. Hubby and I and a tech to hold her, the other tech to try do draw blood out of a leg vein. It wasn't until the muscle relaxant started to kick in that we could get it done.

The shots were a bit easier. Getting a swab of her ear that she's been scratching was a struggle. (Yeast infection.) I told hubby next year, we will probably have to do the muscle relaxant. The one they gave her (I don't recall the name) made her pretty dopey and lethargic. It's wearing off now, thank goodness.

None of our other dogs have been like this at the vet's. I will be dreading next year's visit.

I have a vet-phobic cat and the gabapentin has made a world of difference.
I am a bit undecided on the ‘in the room’ question. Undoubtedly my presence helps, but not enough that it isn’t an unpleasant experience for her (I mean the cat), and I sort of feel I would rather she hate the vet tech and see me as her savior.
If I could make it an OK experience I would insist on being in the room.
one of the vets in the practice won’t see her because she thinks she is dangerous!

Good Morning,

Coffee is ready. It is mighty windy over here...so it is going to be even colder than cold with this blistering wind.

Thank you DL for your suggestion now I just need to wait for my hens to go broody....it is just a matter of time...😄

I have been sleeping better since I got this tiny rooster home, might be I want a rooster so very badly.

Mom got the check up from her family doctor after 10 of covid and 4 days of antiviral medication. He says she is fully recovered and no longer infectious after 4 days of medication. He says there is no need to get a covid test...grrrr.

Something ate away my riped cherry tomatoes in the night, no evidence left to who doune it!

A 80gm no shell egg and no egg york in the coop this morning..another who doune it!

Have great day all.❤️

Edit to say: 10 days of covid, not 10 covid
