BYC Café

Good morning, and thanks for the coffee.
Good morning Cafè. Coffee is ready.

One of the boys will reside in the maternity ward until he is rehomed or in the freezer. He was caught ruthlessly chasing down one of the pullets yesterday. And he mounted Astrid without asking. He's not being offered a third chance to strike out. He's OUT!
Hey, he's just 'trying to get a little'. :wee

We collected these this morning on our hike.

Butchering chickens is no fun, but certainly is part of the deal. Unfortunately.
This is the first time in over 7 years of keeping chickens that I've run into this particular problem and I have breeder quality stock that needs to go.
Hey, he's just 'trying to get a little'. :wee
You would say that.
He's trying to get a lot. He already went after Astrid and then went after that young pullet.
The season of 'Purple and Gold' - to be followed by the season of white.
Shhhhhh! Let's just enjoy the flowers first.

Good Morning,

Coffee is here...☕

I walked into the garden early this morning and I am not joking I can smell summer! The lovely smell of summer, but we are in our 1st month of spring. All chicken works are done and it is only 7am.

Awhile back I watched some youtube videos and they were saying how easy it is to keep backyard chickens, you get eggs, just toss them feed, water and house, then off you go with lots of eggs....really that is so untrue! The endless chicken issues, care, feed, management of flock and the ill health that is just to name a few.

I feel for those roosters DL, but it is part of keeping chickens, not something anyone wants to do. So funny you say that rooster was trying to get a lots😄

Have a great day all.

Hopefully this is not a breed/strain thing. It will be interesting to see how the others mature.
He's the Easter Egger. He has Ameraucana in him. I think a naughty boy may have gotten into their breeding pen and knocked up some poor, innocent little Ameraucana hen. This kid clearly takes after his rapist father.

Good morning Cafè. Coffee is ready.

Boy did I sleep in late. I was running all over yesterday trying to get my passport application processed. My last stop was a dash from the Tioga County Clerk in Owego to the Binghamton City Clerk to get a regulatory copy of my birth certificate. Then a more leisurely trip back where I stopped at Lowe's to get some paint for the outdoor room and ran into 3 old IBMer friends.

This morning I'll go back to the Clerks office and finish my application. Then run the dogs and start painting the outdoor room screen framing.

We'll be busy today too. We're going to check on the bees at 9, and hopefully pull some frames with honey. At 11, we take our neighbor to the airport. He's the neighbor whose wife passed in June. He's going to stay in Virginia with one of the kids for 6 weeks.

After lunch, we'll extract honey, I hope! I think we will; they have been VERY busy on the goldenrod, of which we have a few acres.
