BYC Café

I got my thyroid ultrasound, fasting blood work draw, COVID and flu shots (my shoulders hurt), picked up some groceries, finished getting the pond ready for winter, restored the deck from the wind damage, put the tarps up on the run, filled the wood racks, swept the house and put together a great butternut squash soup in the crock pot for tomorrow. I forgot to get soy sauce for the salmon rub so I'll have to go out tomorrow again.

Good morning Cafè. Coffee is ready.

I've been up since 3:45. Which my body and Bella's stomach still think is 4:45. I made Bella wait until 5:00 to have breakfast.

It's quite warm this morning at 48 but we are supposed to get winter weather in about 2 days. So today I will tear out all the garden beds and top them up with the excess garden soil I have in a big pile. I hope to move all of it between the beds and filling in the rest of the holes in the chicken run.

This post is the perfect example of why I am so in awe of @DobieLover’s productivity.
In the last couple of weeks I have done most of the same, or at least analogous activities. What Dobie does in a day, I spread out over days and days!
I felt like a super achiever on the day I got one of those vaccines, did grocery shopping, and took the salmon out of the freezer. Of course I also fed and watered chickens and cats but Dobie doesn’t even mention those.
In my defense I am probably a good bit older but still….
Do me a favor @DobieLover, do keep posting when you do a bunch of stuff in a day - it actually helps me to keep pushing myself. Important thing as I age not to give up and sink into the recliner never to move again!

OK! I am inspired and also woke up at the time it is supposed to be!

Good morning and thanks for the coffee! One of my book group friends is leaving for Thailand today and will be there for 3 weeks. She is doing some diving and sightseeing with her family.

We have a dusting of snow on the ground and a breeze but the rest of the coming week will warm up a bit so I guess I will continue the winder prep here as well.
Have fun today, Cafe!

Hubby and I insulated the bee hive today. They're pretty much on their own until a nice warm day (45 or so) in February.

I discovered a section of fence around the garden had been knocked down. I couldn't get it straightened out enough to attach it back to the original position, so I got it close. Ish. Many swear words were directed at deer.

The big thing today: Hubby got the Falcon plow running. He runs it every now and then through the summer to keep the battery charged. It was dead as a door nail in June. New battery. New starter. New wires. And now it starts/runs better than ever.

This is a big load off our minds. If we had to clear the driveway with the snow blower, we'd have to remove many chunks of concrete that have broken off the "repair" someone made years ago. The chunks are "snow blower killers," but they also keep some erosion from happening.

Hubby said as long as Charlie (old neighbor who lost his wife this past summer) lives out here, we will keep the driveway cleared for everyone.
