rafter, I'm not sure about the yo after the chain three and before the double crochet.
Ordinarily the first chain 3 counts as your first double crochet. It looks like you are crocheting into that chain on your second round but you shouldn't be. If you can send me the first 2 rounds if instructions, I should be able to figure out what's wrong.

Rafter, I am so proud, your doing great and hanging in there even though it seems tough once the decifer clicks you will be flyin through patterns in no time. after some research I have learned that in crochet when people first start to learn it, the only really tough part is learning to decifer the lingo, once people break through that it seems they just speed right along and are whiping out all kinds of stuff. In my learning experince I found a crochet dictionary that explains what all the sc, dc, hdc... etc.. means then if that book didn't have a picture in it that would show my how to produce that move or stitch I would look around for a book that did. I found that the 3 librarys in my area had most of the books that I found on the internet or that other crocheter recomended and when all else failed and I could not find a certain book I went to the local bookstore (books-a-million) in my case and took my small purse size ball or yarn and hook found the book I needed and a good hidin corner chair and sat down and learned what I could, that way I didn't have to buy the book, and still got what I needed to learn. Now I did in the end, bought tons of books that I used to learn with at first just cause at time I forget how to do a certain stitch I have Parttimers sendrome LOL two you kids and a 30 yr old hubby will do that to a person.

Anyway if you find a book that you would like to use but don't have it at the library or do want to buy it let us know and maybe one of use may have it and we could make you some copies or something.

Well the storms are rollin in so I must go. have a good day ya'll

Thanks.

Yes, the lingo is confusing. I understand what the abbreviations are for, but when you put them together for instructions, it gets confusing!

I think I got it now. Here is a finished pic of that last one, and of one I just finished.

I agree about the lingo. I also understand the terms and abbreviations, but have problems following the patterns.

It drives me crazy!

I'm trying my best to learn a new pattern, but I just can't get it.

I'll post some pics of it and the pattern to see if anyone can help. It's a cool sunflower pattern I found in one of my books that has about 99 diff patterns of granny squares.

JEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!! You got it girl!!!!!!!!!Yeah!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now you'll be officially "hooked"!!!!

Kim..here are my wooden hooks..Bonnie needs to take some pics of hers too..they are collectible so ya'll should put them on your Christmas lists, lol!!! That's where mine came from...

The big ones are my knit sticks..the ONLY thing I can knit with!!!

Thanks for the support. Now I am going to try a new pattern.

This is real relaxing. I quit smoking 3 months ago and I am having a hard time not starting again. Doing this really helps. It keeps my hands busy so I don't feel the need for a cigarette so bad.

I'm glad I looked at this post, or I wouldn't have gotten this far. The moral support really helped.

Scrambled...Those hooks are wonderful!!! I just love the one that looks like it is made from brass and wood! Who would have thought that crochet hooks would be a collectible item? I never would have before now! I may ask for some from Santa for Christmas...

OMG! Scrambled, those are gorgeous! I had no idea they'd be so colorful. Oh, I want some now. I'll have to take some pics of my antique wooden spools.

OK, Bonnie.....your turn. Can't wait to see them!

Put some on your Christmas lists Kim and Jean ..your kids will love searching for them!! Ebay carries alot and most craft stores have them..mine were very proud of the ones they gave me and they really are collectible as they are all so different.

Yes, show your spools!!!

Jen - your afghan is beautiful. I have made many afghans but only the crochet across, zig zag, or in panels. The last swap was my first attempt at granny squares, or any kind of squares.

Jean - good job. I can follow a pattern, and the one I did for the last swap was just easier for me to read and figure out. I finally figured out how to make a basic granny square without any instructions.

Darlene - your collection is beautiful. I only have the hooks I just bought. I also have all of my grandmas hooks - some of them are bone. I also keep all my hooks in a jar. I also have all of her (gramma's) knitting needles, although she preferred to crochet. I have about 20 quilts she never finished - as she got older she cut out all kinds of quilts, but never put them together. Some day (when I retire) I need to at least put hers together. I also have a quilt I made - not quilted yet - for my son before he was born and he is now 26!!! I guess I will finish it when he has his first child.

I will show you all how the fiber gets from the alpaca to being yarn. We are shearing on June 9, then we sort the fiber - blanket (good stuff), seconds (okay stuff), thirds (gets made into felt) - we skirt the fiber and remove all the "stuff" called VM (vegatable matter) as in hay, etc. Then I wash the fleece, card or comb the fleece and then it can be spun into yarn. We don't keep all of our fleece, we send some of it to the Alpaca Fiber Co-Op of North America. Then we can buy products from them (socks, scarves, yarn, gloves) at a discount and sell those. The best fleeces I keep and they are sitting in my basement waiting for me to process. I need about 50 more hours a day!!!

My sister and I are trying to start a farm store and yes I will then sell the yarn I have been making plus products from the fiber co-op. Last year we sold all the fiber from our angora rabbits and this year the lady wants all of it too.

I think tonight I will do some spinning - although I did a square today on the way to work on the rapid -

Bonnie
