Missed you!

As with many forums, a few of the "guests" are bots. Computer programs that are trying to post threads, links and spam. When the software of the forum can deal with it, they just show up as a "guest" viewing a thread.

Many people will have a question or be writing an article or doing a science project. They will sign up, so they have full access, but may never need to ask a question (it's amazing how often reporters do this). Others are shy or do not feel they have anything to add. They know how to search and can find the answers. In a few years, I'd have to think we've posted all the most common questions, in enough different ways that you can search for your own problems and find the right thread.

The hardcore posters will never leave. 30,000 post people.

Interesting thread. I joined on 4/34/2008 & my url shows #9393. I had just gotten my original 3 chicks from Meyer Hatchery. Since then I've bought & hatched eggs from BYC members - now I have 18 chickens, including 2 of my original 3 -- plus four peachicks!
It's been a very learning experience & I've gained a LOT from this forum.

The main changes I've seen in this and in other forums I belong to is the advent of Facebook and games such as Farmtown -- people are spending more time on those & less on forums.

I do belong to one forum (Cocker Spaniel people) where several of us have actually traveled & met each other, we also talk on the phone & email as well as participate in our forum. I know several BYCers have done the same,as well as met up at chickenfests and shows. So you do have the opportunity to gain 'real live' friends by participating in a forum.

I jump on mostly to find out information & use the 'search' function a lot, I try to answer some unanswered posts from newcomers, even if it is the same old information, not everybody is computer literate & knows there even IS such a thing as a search funtion, or how to use it. Sometimes I just like to read about what's going on in other parts of the country.

Overall, this remains one of my top favorite forums, just for the wide range and complexity of topics - I can always surf around & find something of interest going on here.

Okay, Mahonri, trivia time,,,,Was it the barney song "I love you, you love me, We're one happy family" or was it Mr. Rogers? or Am I thinking of the old Coca Cola song where they held hands and sang in a circle "I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony"...........I showed our daughter a clip of that once and she said - oh they held hands so they couldn't hurt each other....Ugh raised a cynic! Enough of me, Maybe I need more coffee.
