I feel your pain. I've ordered up a slew of Havahart traps as somebody with long teeth sampled an unripe peach in the veggie compound. The discussion with fellow Correlenos is that if you choose to relocate the squirrels the magic number is 17 miles away (and preferably across the river). However, most don't make it further than a nearby wheelbarrow full of water.

Is a wheelbarrow deep enough? I personally agree with your method. Surely, they need a nice long deep bath. Why relocate them, when you know that someone else from 17 miles away is just going to bring them, and a few buddies back, and dump them in your yard. Seems like an expensive rat trading program to me!

If I might add. When I was a kid the local yahoos would stop by and ping squirrels out of the tree. Great shot. Though at the time I was always sad to see an innocent critter killed without due cause. THese days I have no problem with reducing the numbers especially if the meat can be used. SOme day I would like to try squirrel stew. Funny thing is I never remember my mother complaining about the squirrels in her gardens. . .. maybe because the squirrels had enough woods to keep them happy . . .. IDK.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. Her friends and family are all joining together in our time of grief. She was loved so much more than she ever knew, and it's good that we are sharing our grief with each other.

I'm no longer angry over the loss. I've begun to accept that it happened. I'm starting to post in the experiment thread again, and maybe by the end of the week I'll be on regularly. I've been spending more time with family in the wake of things, and I have no doubt things are going okay for Heather on the Other Side.
