We're supposed to have a mild winter up north this year. Sure hope so, cause the last 2 were more brutal than I can remember for the last 20 years.Well, let's see how far those seedlings make it. I've not tried that, not for want of thinking about it. And LG, it's Maine, for Pete's sake. How come you get such mild weather this year, while I'm already frozen in? I know, I know, it's not always that way in Maine. Just last week folks here were complaining about how mild this winter is. Huh. Not this week.
No, I haven't heard of it. Did you by chance hear about it from Fedco Trees? They have a lot of great cultivars, and are propagating lots of the old stuff that's been quietly producing crops in out of the way places for hundreds of years. If that's not where you heard about the Stacey, you might want to check out Fedco. They sell trees, shrubs, and the like, and lots of seeds. I like to give them business b/c they are local, and they are standing up to Monsanto and Dupont.Lazy Gardener . Have you heard of the Stacy pear tree . Said to have been discovered growing in Staceyville Maine in the 1980's . Big healthy tree self pollinating with good fruit . I say discovered but the locals all knew about it long before that . I found a source for scion wood . I think it will be fine for my zone 3b property in MN .
Scions - Purvis Nursery and Orchard I got this from the Growing Fruit forum . Started googling the hardy pears listed . Sounds promising . I have checked Fedco . This guy has an amazing list of hardy fruit .We're supposed to have a mild winter up north this year. Sure hope so, cause the last 2 were more brutal than I can remember for the last 20 years.

Once again, I'm jealous! But, I'm oh so very thankful that we're headed into the 3rd week of December, and the ground is still not frozen. I may still have time to get my green house tarp on the hoops and anchored down before the ground freezes! Loving this warmer weather. Santa, eat your heart out!!!
