So my Tom's were a bust this year but my banana trees have all been fruiting! Hardly ever before...these last two years I've mulched dead magnolia leaves over them and the chicken poop hay compost pile drains right into one of the groups of bananas, every rain, hot. They LOVE it. So I applied a bucket of HOT chicken waste to each group of banana trees...those all erupted in fruits! Lol yay something I can use fresh chicken poo on!

Yay! I end up composting the chicken house cleanings, but that is terrific to skip that step.

It is going to be 40-50 degrees tonight. I hope we don't get a frost in September.

My husband just mentioned getting some compost piles going ...real ones not my pile if chicken poop n hay lol
We have so many large river oak trees and southern magnolia trees about to shed, literally a half ton of leaves that we move to pretty the grounds and often burn or send away lol well, this year's gardens are built getting ready for spring soil, he says we're too late, should have it cooking now. But we're gonna start it anyway and see if we can make some of this "black gold" outta the chicken and garden waste! I hear so many stories of failure and large rotting mounds of *** do I do with this?! So I'm scared! But I'm going to try! The gardens I see using the compost are amazing. I need one of those successful gardens! Lol

A few gardeen pics I took this morning.

Runner beans covering the mailbox we keep our weeding tools in.

The wild birds took a heavy hit when the chickens came to live with us....we stopped feeding them.

Renegade Callaloo & summer squash.

I came home from work tonight just now and discovered a huge box of beans and various veg on the counter. Think I'll make dilly beans from these ones...I'm kinda tired of eating beans, lol.

lol Where was the box from?

Mr Mkk, Thanks! Although I get get 2 or 3 crops of potatoes a year here, I generally don't cause it plays heck with crop rotation. I did grow a small patch of blues so we could harvest with the grandson. He lost interest when he found some worms & creepy crawlies. lol He is generally much more interested in the strawberries & blueberries. The seeds are sown however, I'm sure he'll get the gardening bug at some point.

We grow sweet potatoes every year though, they're right behind the runner beans in the first set of pics.

2nd year Asparagus behind the youngun.

Started a lot of plants yesterday for the fall/winter garden. That gives me a month to get the chickens moved, prep the beds, & plant. 30 days after that, the summer garden needs to be out & cover crops in.
