I'll be planting garlic tomorrow. I took 6 cuttings of my toms before the freeze and transplanted them into 18 hour lights and 1 gallon containers. They're lovin life!
Harvested bananas before and after the freeze and this year was about 100lbs harvest. Half going to the animals :) awesome vitamin benefits.

I've been dumping the rabbitry waste directly onto the gardens. Soon I plan to til it in with leaf mold we started and get a good rich spring ground ready. I need an amazing harvest. I get some great veggies but no where near the amount I need lol so this spring needs to be awesome.
I have all the tools to make it so! We shall see :)

So awesome :) I love the gardens in Aus, so tropical :) I have never taster a banana that was grown in a home garden. I am guess it has way more flavor than the monsters you buy in a super market. How long does a banana plant take to reach fruit bearing age?
Have you read Jackie French's book on self-sufficiency? Just reading it made me day dream about gardening for hours!

Took forever figure out how to fruit them. Lol
We used to chop them all down each October when theyd die after a freeze (short freezes here tho)
They grow FAST come spring from ground to 10ft by May. We do nothing but rinse the chicken feeders and such off at the plant bases throughout the year. At about 12 feet tall they send out a flag leaf- short odd square leaf. Then a flower. The flower needs almost 6 months to bare ripe fruit. They grow in groups. The ones that flower, fruit then die. The ones that don't flower will the next season. I tag next year's bananas come harvest time this year and now only chop the spent fruited ones. Harvest gets bigger every year. Sometimes it freezes before the ripen to yellow. I cut off the flower and bananas and hang for a day and then separate hands and spread out in a cool dark place. They taste amazing. Waaaay too many to eat lol but better to have excess right?
