So I am pulling the last of the Toms out this week and trying a "new to me" trick to see if I can save my root bound heirlooms I forgot about in the green house. Der.
I have yellow pear Tom's & Brandywine that took off on growth the 1st feeding. Then life happened and while rounding up spent starts to toss to the chickens I see the Heirlooms & a set of Early girls chillin in the corner. Whoops! Crap. Lots of new growth, they're not budding but stretched a lot.
These guys are a month late about. I am planting half in the garden and half in a climate controlled area to see if I can get them all to produce decently. They will be laid at an angle sideways almost and stems buried a bit. This should encourage new root growth in case they're original set is too bound in their starter pots. Making them stronger. I worry about the heat coming, its brutal so I'll be keeping a set of each indoors in case I lose outdoor ones or need to pollinate myself due to high temps, I can do so with the indoor set. Hate to lose them because I got distracted. I direct seeded Jubilees and cherry Tom's and let that area be lol. Then realized as it filled in I have no slicing Toms. So now I have them and will pull suckers to root for a fall crop.
