I have been having a blast planting many things this year.
Long story short... when we bought the house it was weeds and 3 trees with an evergreen bush covering half the front of the house.
I have managed to get the grass to come back to life. I removed the nasty bush from the front and planted lots of roses.
It has been 14 years of working on the yard. I now have things going strong and blooming all summer long.
I did loose a peach tree and a small crabapple tree this year. Bad winter and all. In the place the crabapple was I now have a very pretty flower bed with
Tons of tulips, daffodils, crocus, mums, siberian iris, dwarf delphinium, baby's breath, moon beam coreopsis, sun daisies, geum, columbine and other things. I need to get some pictures of it to share.

I just found this thread and think it is wonderful that folks can pop in and share what works and what they need some help with.

That's so cool! Gives me some inspiration when I get my own place lol. I think I'm gonna use the mulch method I've learned about. I am part owner of a mulch company with organic material so it'd be convenient wnough

My super tall green bean plant is under attack! Some nasty glassy green beetles(?) are destroying the leaves. What is the best way to stop them?

@Kraftcrazychick We also have a really nasty beetle that comes at Christmas and chews all the roses and anything else that looks tasty. Everyone here says you have to weather the storm as it were, but I spray a mixture of washing up liquid, olive oil ('cos its thicker) and crushed garlic. Bit of a mission to make up but definitely stops them in their stride. Of course you could spray commercial beetle killer but then you pretty much stuff your crop up as you have to wash everything really really well before you eat it.

I found a pretty flowers in my horse pasture. Is this a passion flower? Is it useful for anything other than being beautiful? Can I collect seeds or somehow take cuttings or something to plant more around my house to enjoy and not have to trek way out into the pasture?
It is a passion flower, I call them Maypops, the fruit is edible you can make jams or jellies from them so I've read, I just eat the seeds like you would a pomegranate. The seeds are encased in a jelly sort of case, like a pomegranate. Their perennial so you could dig it up come fall and move it that way.

i found tons of passion flowers on our property just the other day.. i didn't know you could eat the parts of the fruit, i\m excited i have tom research to do ;) .. i find all kinds of fun edible stiff, we found almost 1/2 an acre of dewberries this year with wild blueberry plants scattered among them...

I kill the Japanese beetles by hand.. , they come after my cherry trees and every time one of us goes outside we go over to check them and kill the ones we find ,

I am thinking about getting a purple martin house they are supposed to eat all flying insects and leave your garden alone .. any thoughts?

For your enjoyment (I hope you all enjoy) some of my hard work this year.

The above is the new expanded bed where my crabapple tree used to be. The stump is from some large tree trimming that was going on down the road from me.

Daisy bed is doing well

Zebra grass and ninebark are flourishing finally.

And what would life be without a little whimsy. Found this round basket at a thrift shop for a dollar and planted some cobweb hens and chicks in it with a couple annuals I found on clearance. The whole thing cost me less than 6 dollars to buy and plant. I am happy with how it looks.
