BYC gardening thread!!

I decided to dig up the rest of my sweet potatoes. I got one! It is only 2 1/2 inches though... but still! I got one!!!

I have never grown sweet potatoes, but I will be participating in a community garden project next year that will grow some. The guy with sweet potato experience says they really need to be kept warm. They need a lot of heat. So early on we will cover them with clear plastic (watering will be done via soaker hose) and again near the end of their season if the weather isn't staying warm.

Just thought I would throw that out there for others to consider.

I like to think I know my way around a thriving vegetable garden, but each time I participate in a project with others, I pick up new pointers and try out new veggies.

We just planted ginger root, hope it does well here in Arizona.

I tried starting some ginger... organic from a health food store. It rotted. Had some good eyes on it also. How did you start yours?

Im trying to start a inedible ginger from Hawaii where its invasive....I wonder why they were selling it! Im getting my soil test soon, but was wondering what this was, virus or disease?

I harvested some late potatoes the other day, not a whole lot just a couple hand fulls but I'm happy with them as I didn't plant more than a couple handfulls and I wasn't sure they'd do anything so late in the season. (Planted them in late September)
