BYC Help! WHAT HAPPENED to POSTING???

Ok, the engineers found the bug and it should be fixed shortly!! Here are the geeky details:

It was an IE-only syntax error -- ecmascript 5 style trailing commas are supported just about everywhere except IE <= 8 (IE9 "compatibility mode" emulates IE8 in this regard). If users have "compatibility mode" enabled, it should be disabled.

Good work.
I keep an active IE install just to test compatibility; I just launched IE 8, it's working fine, but my cache is clean, first time on BYC in many months with this browser.

BTW, I always thought IE stood for Internet Exploder, not "explorer".

When it comes to raisin' chickens/guineas, I'm a mere chick/keet. But, when it comes to the 'net? I'm an old-school hack. The problems you're likely experiencing most probably involves compatability issues, or possibly somebody's workin' on BYC and/or the server it's hosted upon.

The compatability issues, by the way, are almost exclusively the fault of Microsoft, when it comes to Internet Explorer, as they've yet to build a browser that is fully compliant with W3C's recommendations, or the proper handling of CSS (cascading style sheets, which control presentation/appearance ~'-)

The folks behind BYC seem pretty sharp, when it comes to all that sorta stuff ... they'll have it up/runnin' just fine, in no time.

One user on has reported that turning off Compatibility View on IE resolved this problem. That option should always be unchecked because it hampers the browser, FYI. This problem seems to be restricted to IE from what we're seeing, so make sure that you do NOT have compatibility view enabled.

A few days ago, I got tired of working with the IE issue and loaded FF (Firefox). No issues then. Only thing that I do not like, with FF and Chrome is that you either leave all cookies enabled or disabled. Yes, you can manually enter exceptions but what a pain!!! I have IE set to pop up when someone is trying to save a cookie, to my computer, and I choose to allow once, forever or never (which means it will block it forever unless I remove the block). I HATE TRACKING COOKIES (not yelling- just for emphasis) and will be forced to use IE until this feature is added to FF and/or Chrome :(

This morning I forgot about the IE issue and started IE to enter BYC-- it now works in IE and I do have the compatibility button on. So that is not the, original, issue- otherwise I would still be having the issue with no bar and only the quote button (no multi quote) and in 'quote' I would still see the HTML code.

Seems to be, for me, a 100% issue with the trailing commas.

Go to tools/add ons, and do a search for the word "cookie". You'll find loads of FF plugins that give you granular control over cookies; cookie monster, cookie manager, cookie controller, etc...

Here's a direct link to the full list of add ons:

Another weird thing (when BYC stopped working in IE) is my daily digest. I stopped getting them. I looked, on each of the threads I am subscribed to, and it still says that I am subscribed.

To see if I can force the e-mail daily digest (of the threads I am subscribed to) to start back again, I have changed a handful to 'weekly' digest, saved, then changed them back to 'daily'. We will see if this works and kick-starts them back up again.

Sheila :)
