BYC KNITTING CLUB

BairleaFarm, I knitted my boyfriend a scarf a couple of winters ago. My biggest project up to that point because the pattern was complicated. I spent 10 hours. He lost it! So if you can knit one for yourself you won't have someone who'll get mad at you if you lose it

I just closed my lovely knitting shop this summer. My
Husband is in the advanced stages of ALS and he is my main focus now. My chickens and my knitting are my therapy which help me get through this horrific disease (from a caregiver's point of view). I'm glad to have found this thread.

Welcome Rosaleen. So sorry to hear about your husband. You have a full plate for sure. Hope this thread helps you as much as your knitting and your chickens do. I know I use mine to help me relax and found years ago that my quilting was a lifesaver for me as well as my knitting and crocheting when I was going through a terrible divorce. We hope you can enjoy visitng with us as we'll enjoy having you with us.

Rosaleen,

I am new to this thread as well but I know how relaxing knitting can be, so I hope we'll see each other in this thread often

I just finished my first sock using a self-striping yarn and 9" #2 (and #3) circular needles. This is very exciting and it fits like a glove. I wish it were already cold so I can start wearing the socks when I've finished the second one.

Here it is:

Hi i just found this thread and have always wanted to learn how to knit. Where and how did you learn how to knit? I only know how to crochet and have been trying to learn from books but i can never seem to get it right. Any suggestons for a newbe?

I learned by watching videos online. Then I purchased a book but I don't know where I last put it. I gradually kept purchasing different sizes and kinds of needles. I learned how to knit on regular needles but now I love circulars. When you make a knit stitch always make sure that your yarn is coming from the back, and when you make a purl stitch always make sure the yarn is coming from the front.

Anytime I am lost knitting I go to this site:

http://www.knittinghelp.com/

It has pretty much taught me everything I know. Which is not much, but I am working on it. But, it is a good place to start. Has a video on everything from cast on to bind off.

Welcome to the thread.

ChicksterJo, your sock rocks! And welcome Rosaleen, knitting is a great thing to do for yourself. I know it has helped me through an awful lot, and you can bring it with you anywhere.

To ChicksterJo....nice job on the sock. I love the self-patterning sock yarns. I always have a sock on the needles, no matter what else I may be working on. Makes good Christmas gifts...but only to people who appreciate the effort and know how to take care of them.
