Great socks!!! I always seem to start socks and get bored and never finish them! I do them on two ciculars. I like that better than double points!

I love teaching beginners either scarfs or dishcloths. They can knit away and have something to use in the end.

I am really into knitting from Jean Greenhowe's books right now! I made the male and female snowman for Christmas last year. I have also made her basic doll, humpty dumpty, teddy bear, thumb doll, and started working on Sam the Scarecrow but put him down until I can buy more green yarn for his hat!

I am so glad that I am really getting back into knitting! I used to be a pattern tester for several designers and I founded our local TKGA chapter and was the president of it for a long time. With my kids younger at the time I realized the chapter was growing faster than I had time to keep up with it, so sadly I have not even checked in with them in 2 years.......I need to e-mail them.

BTW- I loved that knitting smile and am trying it out!!

Here is a link to the WORLDS MOST SIMPLE Dishcloth..what we call in our family "Old Faithful". My mom taught me how to knit and I taught my neice and my boyfriend how with this pattern..everybody gets one for xmas and I have a pile in each bathroom. It's a nice thing to do when you dont want to start a big project and you just need to do a little something you keep you entertained..requires almost no thought or concentration, LOL

For all you beginners, I recomend this as your first washcloth/ Dishcloth. It works up diagonally so it 'seems' to go quick.

Here is what they look like

If you already know how to pearl and use DPNs and know the basic stitches..Ur 90% there. I highly suggest Lion brand's "mens grey sock". On my first pair i Omitted the leg part and made some cuff socks so it wouldnt take so long. My foot is size 7.5, so 40 stitches on number 4s work excellent for me. I would be glad to help if you need it. I have only been making socks for like a year now. Now that I think of it, my first pair was a baby sock for my son..smaller scale to figure out the mechanics of socks without overwhelming myself..Nice to have little feet around to practice new patterns on.

I used basic lion brand mens sock pattern, like I always do, then i used this new spiral tube sock pattern for the leg because I like the spiral bump design (something different). Then went back to Lion brand..the next thing I did different was i did K1 P1 ribbing for my arch..I love ribbed arch socks from the store so I figured "hey why not try it"..then i finished with 15 rows of regular foot then toe decrease..I really like them! they stay on really good

BTW, i have a pair that i started in teh winter on #2s with a longer leg on Caron yarn that is two toned..I have what my mom calls "Second Sock Syndrome" that was too tedius and long to do again! So i still just have the first one

I was scared to learn socks at first as well. Then I found my local yarn store was holding a class on socks on two circular needles. The price included the class, yarn, two circular needles, and instruction book. It was a two hour class and I was suprised how easy it was and how fast it went by! Maybe you can find something like that around you?
