BYC KNITTING CLUB

Adorable hat and booties! I haven't finished anything recently, but would like to finish the baby sweater I started a few months ago.

I don't know when I'll get pics up. My puter has died so I'm using hubby's annoying puter for now. At least I can get online.

I recently finished all the pieces for a sweater for my husband, but have yet to sew them all together

For some reason, I have about 5 different projects that are waiting to be sewn up - I hate that aspect of knitting (probably because I'm not very good at it!), so I always put it off...

I WILL post pictures as soon as I get something stitched together lol

Calling all knitters - I need someone who can knit to make some slippers for xmas presents for me.

i'd supply the yarn and have a simple pattern in mind, but have no skill with knitting - can quilt but not knit!!

please contact if interested in working something out.
thanks.

Well, I'm a knitter, but I don't think I could bear to knit something for someone "on contract." It's like cooking -- the love is what makes it really worthwhile.

Maybe you could knit these slippers yourself? Have you tried? I think there's two ways people learn to knit-- one is to watch carefully and come to understand what the yarn is doing as you loop it around the needle. The other method is to just learn the redundant physical steps of looping the yarn along the row and then turning the needle and doing it (or it's counter opposite i--e perling) again the other direction.

I took up knitting while I was teaching in Africa --far out in the bush. I knew the basics, had made mittens and hats in the past but was clueless about how to shape anything. One of the women on the farm where I lived (in an old chicken coop!) saw my tangled effort and offered to help me learn. Her lessons were so clear and simple -- she couldn't walk so she was glad for the chance to do something different. She helped me see that it was more "what you made it" than following directions.

Anyway, where ever you are, there are probably older women with wisdom to share on how to knit those slippers. -- I do admire your planning and foresight, getting ready Christmas gifts in June!

Erthymom -- one other thought. Have ever looked at Elizabeth Zimmerman's book "Knitting Without Tears" Published by Schoolhouse Books. It's a wonderful entertaining book that gives a brilliantly clear straight forward lead in to knitting. Her voice as a writer is in itself so clear and freeing. She's all about experimentation and "Unventing" new ways to do things.

Scootersmom that is a very cute set!

Erthymom2, I've seen patterns for fabric slippers on some of the quilting sites I've shopped at. That might be something to think about, if you don't want to try knitting slippers right now and you can't find anyone to make them for you.

Catcrazyuk, I used to hate sewing sweater pieces together, too. Over time, I got over it. I think I just got better at it and had less trouble with the yarn tension as I sewed. Have you ever thought about knitting sweaters in the round and just eliminating those darn seams? Sweaters can be knit in the round from the bottom up or from the top down. I know what you mean about the terminology thing. I've brought home a few sweater patterns from Canada, while on fishing trips.

WoodlandWoman - I haven't tried knitting in the round when making sweaters... I like the pieces to grow quickly, and as I use a double knitting weight of yarn, it's not very fast really! That may be something for the future though.

Erthymom2 - I knitted a pair of slippers not so long ago and they only lasted a few weeks

Make sure you purchase very hard wearing yarn, or get some felt to stitch to the bottom to increase the life of the slippers.

I was a bad girl at the weekend and started yet another project - a cardigan for me

It's in a lovely copper colour yarn and is so soft and snuggly - I'm really enjoying knitting it and after only a few hours work I'm already half way through the left front

Oh well, time to get me ready for work (I'm a lunch lady at a small school - something that gives me lots of time to knit and to spend with my chickens!).
