BYC members in Massachusetts?

There was finally a post regarding the avian flu in Massachusetts on the APHIS site. Apparently it was found in a backyard flock in Berkshire County. I did a lot of digging on their site and found that a dead goose tested positive for the avian flu in Middlesex County on 15 March. That’s a bit scary.
I thought it was just wild birds they found but not surprised to fine any farm/backyard that also has Ducks get it along with their hens too :(

It's rude to let a flock 'roam the neighborhood' :rant

There was a house on a twisty turny road that did that and they were upset that the chickens kept getting hit by cars............... duh...........

Hi, I don't live in MA, but I am very close to the border. I'm posting on here because I want to hatch some chicks, but I can't keep any boys. So, before I hatch, I want to see if there is anyone interested in taking a possible boy? I could also add an extra girl or two if I hatch them. The chicks would be Easter Egger/Black Australorp mixes.

Cockerels are usually hard to rehome. Most people will raise them enough to become dinner. Sorry. Please don’t post them for free on Craigs list either. Most free small animals including cats, dogs and chickens will be used as bait animals.

Yes, I know it's hard to rehome boys, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask. This would be a very small hatch, so hopefully I'll only end up with one boy anyway, which should make it easier.
My chickens are pets, so I could never eat them. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just I personally could never do it.
I for sure won't advertise on CL.

I understand and I don't eat my chickens either. However, in the circumstance of trying to re-home cockerells, I would prefer giving them to someone you know would butcher them humanely than worrying they were used as a bait animal. Best of luck with your hatch.

Yeah, I get what you mean. Although, I do have another option if I can't find someone to take a cockerel. There is a farm sanctuary not too far away and there is also an SPCA near me that takes chickens.

Those are great options, I hope you rehome them.:fl It was extremely hard for me to rehome my cockerels locally. The farm sanctuaries and shelters were full beyond capacity. I was able to rehome 4 with a local breeder 25 minutes away. I still have one, trying to keep him.
