BYC Needs Brainstorming HELP: Forum / Category / Section Ideas

Okay, are you ready for the awsomest of all ideas?! (aren't I modest...

)


A KID'S SECTION , OF COURSE!!! for all us YOUNG (i.e. under 20) BYC'res! Thrust me, there's a lot. Besides being 11 myself, there is also Chickity and (ahh forgot the first part of his name)boy11 ALL 11!!! And there's hcammack, justino15... the list goes ON and ON.

(this is my modest, shy doppelganger speaking) ummm... yeah. So a kid's section would be nice.

I love the titles those are fun and stimulate conversation..so how bout go a step further and have a Chicken Rookie of the Day Award or some kind of award that can change everyday but that puts the new person in the spotlight for a day..maybe put their avatar at the top of the page beside the pic of the week..something like that..

Maybe set up some chats with specific topics at specific times like seminars....

LOL!!! I told them they shouldn't have asked me!!! Great ideas from everyone, wow!! What about a Chicks in the News too, where issues related to chickens that make the news get posted

Maybe even a links page to all the cool etsy shops with a brief description of whats in them and the person's screen name and other cool (NON-COMPETITIVE) websites

This may not have much to do with changing the 'Me, My Chickens, My Family' section, but I'd love to see a separate section for people interested in cross-breeding their own home-brew layers and meat birds. I've found several neat threads on that subject in several different parts of the forum. Nothing wrong with that, I guess, but it would be cool to have a separate place where folks could post about their breeding stock and the results they achieved.

I know there are already sections called 'Breeds in General' and 'Breeders and Backyard Hatcheries', but nothing devoted to those interested in developing their own breeds or hybrids, and exchanging information with other like-minded individuals. I also know that the entire process of cross-breeding takes a good amount of time before any discernable results might be noticed, but hey, the internet isn't going to go away anytime soon and there might be people out there who already have some great results to post.

Maybe it could be called 'Creating your own breed' or 'Selective breeding info and results' or something.

Who knows, maybe a BYC member will stumble across the next great meat or layer cross combination that people could produce in their own backyards. It would be great to have all that information in one place.

i think envirogirl11 has a good idea, there are alot of "kids" on here, including myself, and exactly what to put in the forum, idk. but i think its a good idea.

Wow! I like the grouches and growls and the cross breeding ideas!! Seems someone had a thread going a while back about self-sustaining, like a whole area on living off your own means..that would be cool...

Hi, The only section that I have seen that is misleading is the "me, my chickens, my family."

This is a chicken forum. I think anything that does not pertain to chickens should go into a subject called everything but chickens.

That way one doesn't open up the topic and see a rant of private personal issues. Topics that involve legal matters and often lead to slanderous, libel remarks about people not even on the forum. For instance, abuse beatings, remarks about someones children etc. The forum I administrated did not tolerate any such postings. It leaves the administration open to legal problems.

Also we allowed links to private websites if one wants to blog about there personal problems. Do it on their dime, not the forums.

Dilly you have some good points. Separating out that forum is a good idea. However, legal issues aside (which we try to discreetly handle on a case by case basis with focus on not the legal aspect but the caring about a persons feelings aspect), BYC is not only a chicken forum, we are also a big network of folks that care about each other. So to only allow chicken topics and nothing personal would make BYC like a certain other message board that starts with a C that is all business and no caring. I don't think we want that.

I agree with MissPrissy, I, too, would like to see Other Poultry subdivided into, Ducks, Geese, Game Birds, etc., etc......?

No I love the personal touch, I just think that there should be a section of everything and anything but chickens, for those not interested in private postings.

I also think there could be a section called Gallery for nothing but personal pics. Also where links to private websites could be listed. This way for those who have a small sideline going, they can be referenced quite easy.

I personally feel Nothing that borderlines on legal matters, abuse, etc. have a bearing or place on any public forum, unless it is a professional one dealing with such matters and advice given is done by professionals.

So a link for websites, Gallery for pics. This way you do not loose the personal warm fuzzy feeling we all enjoy here.
