BYC SEWING/QUILTING CLUB

I have a pajama bag my mother made for me when I was a little girl. She made it out of sheeting and made it like a pillow slip (oops! I meant pillow case) The object was when a child takes off their pajamas they're folded and put in there and then it sets on the bed until needed and it's neat. It is hand embroidered with Pixies on it and the embroidery is all chain stitch to fill in the picture. It's very detailed We brought it with us when we immigrated to the US in 1948 and I treasure it above all else. We didn't have much left after WWII and couldn't bring but a few things with us so I really treasure it.

I have to check my chickens and gather eggs. My zebra finches hatched four babies and three of them are all white. They've fledged and are flying all over the cage now.

baustin do you have a pic of the finches? I used too have finches back when I was home in the 50's but I don't think I have seen any called zebra. I am thinking of getting another cockateil or finches or parakeets. Some of my family has had asthma in the past around cats and never got any birds too replace the one I had years ago but I think they have outgrown the asthma now. I have chickens but in the winter I can't help much with them so I am thinking I need a pet in the house. Used too have a toy poodle for 18 years. Lost her about 3-4 years ago and never replaced her with an inside pet.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce that I have no choice but to temporarily suspend my membership to the BYC quilting club. My machine broke. It will be at least a few months or maybe if I'm lucky during summer. Heck maybe not for a year. I'd been trying to get my hubby to pay down the bills a little better because all I had was a real basic machine. But in just the last 6 months we've had to replace 2 major appliances, had my daughter bring home a pup with mange, and then my other dog got a tumor. Oh and the beginning of it all was our cat almost crossing the rainbow bridge. Now last week it was the dog's tumor which she is just too young to have been put down so we really discussed how to deal with it financially and it really wasn't easy. In all our years together (21st anniversary this year) we've never had an animal get sick; just had to get shots and spays. So to have my machine break (it's so basic it's not worth fixing) right now just really.. well it just plain sucks. I hate hand sewing. I tried some hand applique this year and frandkly it really bored me and it was so slow. Maybe I should do some embroidery so I can still go to my bee and guild without getting pissy over the croaking of the machine. I'm just kinda mad and sad right now and I had to get it off my chest. Hubby knows that quilting is important to me but he knows that I was wanting and could really have used a better machine for the last year and a half. So I'm not counting on something new. Maybe I'll find one on craigslist for about a hundred bucks. I could probably scrap that together in a couple of months. AHHHGGGGG!!!!!!!

I just got a Touch and Sew Singer 603 off of our local Craigslist for $30 and that include the manual and ALL the accessories she had bought for it. You never know what you can find. I hope everything gets better for you, it sucks when everything goes down at once/

I'm definitely going to watch craigslist. I'm usually checking it out every other week or so. I just have to sock away a few bucks first.

Have you tried freecycle. Or you can post a wanted ad and ask to do payments if you really wanted a machine. People understand stuff happens and the economy ain't helping.

Oh man I'm not gonna do anything that I need to make any payments on. I've been on freecycle for a couple of years. But our freecycle changed to freeshare. Ugh.

I understand that completely.

Okay I started a rag quilt today. It isn't cute, I know. I wanted to do an enviro one for me though. I had planned on an animal prints but the only zebra print I found was 16 dollars a yard!

I got 2 yards of fabric and got this. I am waiting for mom to bring me the batting so I can cut it, and tomorrow I will start sewing it. Sorry the pics are bad, it's webcam from the computer

If you can't tell by the pic the black and white is birds and branches. The other is black white and green and says stuff like Save our plantet, tree hugger, reduce reuse recycle, think green, energy efficent and a few more.

I like the colors, I think it will look great sewn together. Way to go...new machine and fabric, you have a fun weekend ahead of you.

Yep, and can't wait to start the fish one you're sending. I didn't want to mess up gifted fabric, so I'm working with my own
