BYC SEWING/QUILTING CLUB

Ninny..what do you want to make? As bad as I hate to say it..in our area..WalMart has the cheaper price..but..depends on what you are going to be doing with it..there are tons of online fabric stores...if you are just wanting to "learn/practice" on the new machine, check the mark down bin at WalMart, use old clothing, check goodwill/thrift stores..put an add on CL. IF you are wanting to get into quilting..get ready for the ride!!..there are lots of us on here that are more than willing to enable you!! Let us know where you want to start and we will help...btw..if you go back and read Zahboos post etc..youwill see comments on Scissors..get a good pair to use ONLY with fabric..kitchen shears won't do!!

I have some strips left from my New Years Quilt if that is anything that you would like to try. There is a link to that quilt in the thread with that title. You would need 3 yards of a base fabric but the rest of it could be made from old cotton clothes. Guarantee that my fabric might have random dog hairs so if you are allergic to animals you might want to turn me down.

For quilting I would recommend getting a rotary cutter and a mat. Walmart is great for cheap fabric but I also go to the local fabric shops and shop their discount shelves. At a local shop I get really high quality fabric for $3 a yard.

I agree STRONLY with the rotary cuttter, matt AND RULER. I tried my first quilt without it, just using scissors and it shows.
