BYC SEWING/QUILTING CLUB

I want to make all my neices, nephews and grand neices and nephews quilts before my hands give out. When talking to my neice today I realized my grand-neice is going to be 16 in July (dang these kids are getting old!!) They have already started planning her party. It's going to be a Tim Burton style Madd Hatter Tea Party.

I'm looking at making her quilt based on that theme. Taylor likes dark purples, reds, greens. What I'm looking at doing is starting with a 10 inch "rabbit hole" and work out from there with a log cabin. Light, dark, light dark, spiraling out from the center. I will then applique a Madd Hatter on top of that. Will decorate it with sequins, beads and other shiney things. Also a White Rabbit. Thinking of giving him googly eyes. Tea pot, tea cups, Queen of Hearts crown, Cheshire cat. What else?

Here's a mock-up. Whatcha'll think?

Wow! Great project! I love the idea!
Will you be doing this like a huge log cabin block? The only thing that I can think of is that if the strips are too narrow, you might have a lot of stretching and it will be off square. Using a fusible stabilizer before cutting the strips will add bulk, but will help with body and fabric stability.

The quilt is beautiful

Glad to hear you used the fuse-able method for the quilt. I saw it done on Quilt in a Day awhile back. I know it has to be easier than the traditional way. She also showed doing the Wedding Ring quilt using the fuse-able

I was going to use 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 inch strips instead of the 1 1/2 strips that are usually used for the big log cabin block. I've got a big tote of each, lol. I've never done it but I've seen the log cabin sewn to a base fabric in addition to the previous "log" in the pattern. That may keep it from shifting out of shape.

What do you think of a mix of the 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 inch strips. One row of one size then the next row of the other?

So I had a seed swap at the library today and while I was there one of the aids took me upstairs, "Now Amie, the trustees are getting upset with us because we are using space for "junk". For some reason when someone cleans their closets and attics they bring stuff here and we put it in this closet. Take whatever you want before it gets thrown out." She opens the closet and it was like a dream.............. Fabric, lace, notions, embroidery thread, yarn, you name it, it is there. A lot of antique, oops, vintage trims. My mouth dropped, "What do you mean take it, I can't be greedy. I am sure I am not the only person who could use this." The woman hands me a big black garbage bag and says, "OK fill it then." There is so much still there. I tried to slip a donation in the cookie jar but I was found out and it magically found its way back in my purse. As I was leaving I hear, "Stop here before you go to Joann Fabric. It could save you a trip."

My head is swimming with ideas...............

I made a wedding ring top with the fusible. The hardest part was getting the rings to interlock!

Then I used the fusible to make a Mariner's Compass

(I think I posted this already here.)
Like paper piecing, the printed fusible makes for easy peasy accuracy.
